After the heat of the competition died down, Ms. Valerie Escamilla, 4th year student of the Bachelor of Science in Hotel and Restaurant Management of JBLCF Bacolod, emerged as the 2016 Ms. Masskara Queen. Coronation was held at the SMX Convention Center-Bacolod last Saturday, October 15.
Escamilla bested 10 other candidates who represented their respective colleges and universities in Negros Occidental. Originally there were 11 candidates but one backed out because of health reasons. Escamilla was favored by the judges after wittingly answering the final question “If there would be a plot to kill ugly women, will you be spared or will you be initiated, why or why not? She answered “I know and I believe that I will be spared because I will use my title as a MassKara Queen to influence my fellow youth”. She also said that if she will win the title, she will not simply wear the crown that will be put on her head, but that her title would be an inspiration to her fellow youth.
Mr. Julio Cesar Da Silva from Rio de Janeiro, Brazil;  Mr. Arthur Villanueva, WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Champion 2016; Mr. Migo Dreyfus Adecer, GMA Starstruck Ultimate Male Survivor, and former Glee Australia cast member; MR. Clarence Jacques Lim, Mr. University of San Carlos; Ms. Maria Vina Claudette Peralta Oca, MassKara Queen 1992; Ms. Sam Georgiana Yu, MassKara Queen 2015; Ms. Maria Allyson Sollabes, Trade Marketing Manager of Procter and Gamble; and Jojo Vito, chief executive officer, Vito Designs; served as the pageant’s judges.
First runner-up went to Maria Angela Clarisse Estioko, second runner-up to Ancella Denise Anne Pastias, third runner-up to Erika Joille Patayon, and fourth runner-up to Pink Erica Eirene Genolos.
This is the first time that the contestants were from the different schools in the province.
