JBLFMU Chairman of the Board is Dungog Awardee

Dr. Mary Lou Lacson Arcelo, President Emeritus and Chairman of the Board of JBLFMU is a recipient of the Dungog sang Dakbanwa sang Iloilo 2017 Award given recently.

Dr. Mary Lou is a recipient of the award in the maritime education category. The award was received on her behalf by her son, the JBLFMU Chief Executive Officer, Dr. Ronald Raymond Lacson Sebastian since the schedule of the awarding was in conflict of an official travel abroad.

Dungog sang Iloilo is an award conceptualized and established by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog and given as part of the Charter Day Celebation of the Metro. It was institutionalized for the best interest of stakeholders who have meritorious accomplishments and exemplary contributions and services through respective fields of endeavor and specialization.  The award recognizes the contribution of outstanding individuals in the advancement and growth of the city and has given it due honor, distinction and prestige.

The award is given to Ilonggo’s who either are born in the city itself or have lived a substantial portion of his life in it. The criteria include Service to the Community 40%, Professional Excellence and Integrity in their respective field of endeavor, 40% and Leadership, 20%.

Dr. Mary Lou has been at the helm of the JBLFMU for more than 50 years. Due to her love of the maritime profession, she was able to navigate the university in providing a huge percentage of quality seafaring manpower to the 30% over-all contribution of the Philippines to the global seafaring industry.
