Magramo invited to be Transnav Committee Member

Dr. Melchor Magramo, Research Director of the JBLFMU and an Honorary Fellow of the TransNav is honorably invited to be a member of the Scientific Programme Committee of the 13th International Conference on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation  of the TransNav 2019, which will be held from 12 to 14 June 2019 (Wednesday-Friday) in Gdynia, Poland. The Conference is jointly organized by the Faculty of Navigation of the Gdynia Maritime University and The Nautical Institute.

At the same time, Dr. Magramo is also invited to be with the International Programming Council of the TransNav, the International Journal on Marine Navigation and Safety of Sea Transportation for a two year period 2019-2020 (

The opportunity came about because of the commendable record the JBLFMU Research Department was able to achieve for the past few years. From 2007-2012, 12 papers were published in the Transnav Journal (based in Europe). Of the 12 papers, 6 or 50% were cited 593 times to 796 times. The rest (6 of 12) were cited between 1101 times and 2300 times. This means that JBLFMU makes relevant and significant researches that are being utilized by other researchers throughout the world.

In the latest world university rankings conducted by the British Council, JBLFMU ranked 8,430 among the 24,000 universities and colleges worldwide. In the Philippines, the 2017 edition of Webometrics Ranking of World universities conducted by the Spanish National Research Council ranked number  UP Diliman as top 1 followed by De la Salle Manila, UP Los Banos, UP Manila and UST.  JBLFMU is ranked No. 26th and is number 1 in Region 6.

The criteria set by the British Council for the ranking include Teaching 30%,  research (volume, income and reputation) 30%, citations (research influence) 30%, international outlook (7.5%) and industry income (2.5%).

Dr. Magramo is the first and only Filipino to date to be awarded as Transnav Fellow.

Dr. Magramo is working closely with researchers from all units headed by Dr. Rolando Alimen from Molo, Dr. Emeliza Estimo from Bacolod and Dr. Brian Sarinas from Arevalo.
