Three Lacsonians awarded as TOMSP, adviser if Best Mentor

 

Three Lacsonians recently clinched 3 spots for the Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines 2017.

D/C Janine Elican of the NSA -4 and a scholar of Thome Ship Management Pte Ltd, D/C Ronald Christ Capindo of Teekay Shipping Corporation both from JBLCF Bacolod, and E/C Eugene Mark Genilsa of JBLFMU Molo and a scholar of Maersk Filipinas Crewing, Inc were awarded the title last September 24 at the Cuneta Astrodome.

Mdpn. Gerardo Manzano from JBLFMU Arevalo and a scholar of Rosy Star Ocean Vessels Mgt. Co., Inc. D/C John Godwin Nallada of Maersk Line Filipinas Crewing Inc also landed the top 20.

Mentor Cheryl Pagunsan, Student Activity Coordinator of JBLCF Bacolod, was also awarded the Best Mentor by the TOMSP Alumni.

Atty Dennis Gorecho in his facebook post said that the chosen students are seen as the embodiment of the "ideal seafarer," displaying "integrity, passion, assertiveness, dependability and camaraderie" that will allow them to become globally competitive Filipino seafarer .

The TOMSP conducted by Western Union is an annual search of the best maritime students of the country. This is held as a part of the celebration of the National Seafarers Week which is le by the Apostleship of the Sea to give recognition to the vital role of Filipino Seafarers in nation building especially that tha Philippines is a maritime country.

This year’s celebration is with the theme. "Marinong Filipino: Nag-uugnay sa Mundo
