DEPARTMENTAL OBJECTIVES

General Objectives

To be able to work towards the attainment of a better quality of life among the identified partner communities and other entities through quality trainings, programs, projects and activities that focus on education, livelihood, environment, health and sanitation, safety and security, values formation and practice of ethical behavior.

Specific objectives

1.    To identify partner communities and schools, local government units, non governmental agencies, and people’s organizations for collaborative endeavors anchored on the University’s thrusts and advocacies towards educational development, economic sufficiency, health, safety and security enhancement, values formation and environmental preservation and protection.

2.    To involve school officials, faculty, staff, student interest groups and civic organizations in the community extension programs of the university in order to develop their sense of service and volunteerism.

3.    To provide an avenue for the transfer of values, knowledge and skills through trainings which address community extension services thrusts.

4.    To develop a sense of ownership of the programs among the members of partner communities and schools for sustainability of these programs.

CES Thrusts

v   Education- A good education helps empower people, thus making them self sufficient and independent ultimately. It makes them better aware of their given situation and their surroundings as well as the rules and regulations of the society they are living in.

With education, people can bring about development because they are able to critically analyze where improvement is necessary for the greater good. Education helps them understand themselves better; it helps them realize their potentials and qualities as human beings. It helps them tap their latent talents, so that they may be able to make use of them to benefit themselves and others.

v   Livelihood -JBLFMU believes that providing sustainable livelihood projects to its partner communities could be one of the effective means of addressing poverty in the grassroots level.

The university desires to see a brighter future for its partner communities.

v   Environment –The environment is gaining a much-deserved attention; however, the problem on the environment is not really taken seriously and much of what is heard about it remains unimplemented, or, at best, only for initial display.  If no necessary action to conserve and protect our environment, both on the collective and personal  levels, we will be inviting large-scale destruction.

At John B. Lacson we accept two important realities: first, that it is imperative and urgent to address issues on the environment; second, that there is a need to educate our students, ourselves, our partner communities and others on the importance of this advocacy, and corollary to that, the need for the serious understanding of the so- called environmental ethics.

v   Health - JBLFMU gives attention to matters  that directly or indirectly affect the health of the people in its partner communities because it has much to do with their happiness and success or lack thereof.  Health is wealth; it affects one’s whole being.

v   Safety and Security –In the spirit of community responsibility, the university is committed to explore possibilities of providing professional safety and security using the tools available in the partner communities and   the resources of the university to include education, information sharing, and training programs.

v   Values Formation –is the integration of all thrusts of JBLFMU Community Extension services.

This thrust aims to mobilize the community members for natiPROGRAMS AND SERVICES
