Each unit has specific target goals based on the seven-point University agenda which guide them in designing their strategic, training, and academic plans. Faculty members are comprised of practitioners in their industries who keep them updated with the latest trends. Most of them are also required to pursue their graduate and post graduate studies. Aside from lectures, the skills and knowledge of the students are enhanced through research, and seminars and checked through competency assessments conductied regularly by the Academic Audit Office (AAO) unit and the Academic Audit Center (AAC) system assessors.
To ensure compliance to the required STCW competencies and industry requirements, the students are required to undergo three-level competency assessments in critical laboratories. This way, the stakeholders are assured the graduates are compentent to handle the shipboard duties and functions of the support level.

Towards the end of the students' program, in the baccalaureate, graduate and post graduate levels, they are required to undergo practicum and shipboard training activities, take a comprehensive examination and/or submit a feasibility/masters thesis/dissertation to apply the skills and knowledge gained and recommend courses of action that will enhance existing modes of learning, upgrade equipment, facilities and technologies in their chosen professions.
