JBLFMU Arevalo

JBLFMU Arevalo chose its three Unit Model Cadets through a talent and interview competition held at the JBLF Hall yesterday September 29.
Eleven finalists out of more than a hundred were presented for final selection. Mdpn. Gerardo T. Manzano Jr., Mdpn. Thomas Richard E. Graza and Mdpn. Mikkel Dan S. Arengo emerged as winners.
During the selection, the finalists were given a chance to introduce themselves. They then presented their talents and  commenced with an interview. The interview consisted of two questions, Conceptual and Situational.


The JBLFMU  Kayaking Team from the Arevalo unit landed the 3rd runner up and 4th runner up for the  Triyaking Competition Mixed Category of the 1st Dipolog City Dragonboat Competition in  Dipolog City, Zamboanga del Norte  last May 2, 2015.

A multitalented Vega Philippines Inc. cadet is this year’s Most Outstanding Graduate for the Arevalo Unit. OIC Mark Collin Solas, completed his academic requirements for the degree Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation last year with Highest Honors.

The JBLFMU Dragon Team from the Arevalo Unit conquered the championship for the Minor Finals of the Fist Alaminos Dragon Boat Competition against the University of the Philippines, Crimson Dragons  and 1925 who were on 2nd, 3rd and 4th places respectively  held last  March 21, 2015.

For the first time! John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo Unit initiated the first-ever University Immersion 2015 with the partnership of Student Executive Council and Clubs and Organizations Society, last March 4.

With this keystone, one of the young leaders of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Arevalo was chosen alongside 80 other delegates from all-over the country as participant of the 17th National Ayala Young Leaders Congress 2015 at Lima Park Hotel, Malvar, Batangas, February 10-13.


JBLCF Bacolod

Beauty and brains plus the values she was able to imbibe as a Lacsonian made Lovely Georgia Benavente, a BS Cruise Ship Management Student of JBLCF Bacolod land the Ms. Paraiso title in Baguio City recently.
Ms. Paraiso  was held as part of the  national YouthLEAD Philippines in partnership with the Kabataang Inspirasyon ng Sambayanan and World Youth Alliance Asia and the Pacific. This was attended by delegates from different universities and colleges from all over the Philippines. 


The entire Lacsonian community, together with its efforts celebrated a special day commemorating its founder, Captain Juan Bautista Lacson, with the theme “Birthday ni Juan para sa tanan, the memoirs of the history” last September 18, 2015 around the JBLCF-Bacolod campus.

The faculty and staff of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation – Bacolod officially began its first-ever Sportsfest with the theme “Projecting the Lacsonian as the Maritime Vanguard” last August 28, 2015 at 1600H at the quadrangle.

August 28, 2015 marked the day of the first-ever celebration of the John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation - Bacolod Technical Maritime High School’s Araw ng Wika at the school’s Covered Court. The theme of the gala was “Filipino: Wika ng Pambansang Kaunlaran.”

Six student leaders of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod took part in the Basic Parliamentary Course last August 25, 2015 at the Sangguniang Panlungsod Session Hall of the People’s House, Bacolod City held in accordance with the city’s first-ever celebration of the Bacolod Ordinance Awareness Week from August 24-28, 2015.

D/C Boy George Benavente, an Odfjell Tankers scholar, led the 2015 graduates as Most Outstanding Graduate and Magna Cum Laude.



A second year Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management from JBLFMU Molo landed the 2nd runner up in the recently concluded Grand Finals of the 13th ABS CBN Newscasting Competition held at SM  City Iloilo.
Mdpwn. Aubrey Laroscain  grabbed the 3rd top post among the 13 other contenders representing their respective schools in Iloilo City.
For several years now, JBLFMU seldom fails to land the top spots for this most sought after competition in broadcasting despite being in a different field, that is maritime.


The recent Intraschool Newscasting Competition in John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo hailed Mdpwn. Aubrey A. Laroscain as the university’s representative.

Caldeo graduated Bachelor of Science in Tourism  as Cum Laude in 2013 from the JBLFMU Molo. He also was the Most Outstanding Graduate of the batch,  a regional winner for TOSP and Elite Circle of 5 winner in TOSIA.

JBLFMU Molo has this year produced a student writer as the Most Outstanding Graduate. Engine Cadet Daren Ril Valenzuela, a Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering was also the Editor-in-chief of the Seagull in 2014.

Discipline and perseverance made Charity Dorcas Paciente,  Bachelor of Science in Tourism 2 and Mdpn. Joseph Abienda Carillo,  Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering 2; both students from the JBLFMU Molo, grab the gold for the  Dance Sports Modern Standard Category of the Western Visayas PRISAA held in Bacolod City last December 28.

Mdpn. Anthony John Niño of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering with Kyrie Dane Dela Cruz of the Bachelor of Science in Tourism won the gold in the Vocal Duet category for the ILOPRISAA 2014.


Other News

A JBLFMU Arevalo alumnus scored 99% in his OIC for Navigation Watch Licensure Examination held recently.
Mdpn. Kristoffer Panerio, a 2012 graduate of Arevalo and currently working with Leonis Navigation scored perfect in functions 1 and 3 and got 1 wrong answer in function 2.


GIZ, a German company, commended JBLFMU for the implementation of the Expansion of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary, a project it funded starting last year.
Mr. Berthold Schirm, Principal Adviser and Program Coordinator of the company;  Mr. Terence Dacles, the Project Consultant; with other GIZ officers visited the Igang Bay as part of their itineraries for their visit because of the APEC Summit.
Mr. Schirm is happy of what he has seen and is looking forward to the completion of the project after two years, the duration of the said project.

The Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary Team underwent training on Under Water Reef Assessment and Monitoring Surveys at Taklong Island Marine Reserve, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras last August 5-9.  

The Guimaras Bike Paradise of The Philippines,  through the leadership of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University and the Province of Guimaras will again host the third Padyak Series on August 2, 2015.

For the 2nd year now, JBLFMU made it to the top 100 colleges and universities in the Philippines, the only maritime school to achieve such feat; as surveyed by Webometrics Ranking Web of Universities.

Four hundred bikers gathered and biked with Padyak Kaligtasan, the second of the Padyak Series last Saturday, February 28. This is in line with the tapping of the biking potentials of the Guimaras province and sustaining the activities for this Biking Paradise of the country done in cooperation with the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University.
