Bringing their academe on the international front, Mdpn. Steven Tajonera and Mdpn. Jann Heinrich Aguilar, Marine Engineering students of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo represented the country at the International Association of Maritime Universities (IAMU) 17th Annual General Assembly held at Haiphong City, Vietnam, October 26-29.
The said Assembly aims to bring together experts and official representatives of each maritime university to talk about the current progress and pressing issues of maritime education, training and research that matters with the IAMU.
This year's AGA program started with an Opening Ceremony, followed by the AGA 2016 Plenary Session and Technical sessions in Maritime Education and Training, Onboard Training Simulators, Maritime Environmental Issues and Energy Efficiency, Maritime Safety and Security, Human Resources and Cultural Awareness plus a Technical Session Research in Met and ended in Technical Tour at Halong Bay.
"Well, honestly I'm very honored to say that Filipino seafarers have the edge in the maritime industry because of English communication proficiency. That was one of my primary observation during the conference," said Mdpn. Tajonera.
In addition, Mdpn. Tajonera and Aguilar performed the 'Piliin Mo Ang Pilipinas' The Philippines' Tourism Hymn with the country's native percussion instruments during the Friendship Musical Programme held at Vietnam Maritime University Theater, October 27.
The programme promotes the strengthening ties of relationship among students from different maritime schools around the world with more than 500 VMU students in attendance.
The JBLFMU-M representatives are accompanied by Capt. Alfred G. Espinosa, JBLFMU-M Unit Administrator; Capt. Luis Evidente, Executive Assistant to the CEO. Both were mentored by Dr. Rolando Alimen, JBLFMU-M Unit Research Coordinator and Dr. Melchor Magramo, JBLFMU Research Director.
The IAMU confab was also attended by Dr. Ronald Raymond Lacson Sebastian, Chief Executive Officer and Dr. Benelyn Batiduan, Dean of the Graduate School.
