Forty-eight fisherfolks of the Sto. Niรฑo Sur Small Fisherfolks Association joined an early morning shoreline fishing as part of the first Pamunit sa Baybay Tournament, an event that raised sustainable fishing within Iloilo City, held at Zone 3, Sto. Niรฑo Sur, April 26.

The event was supported by the university by providing prizes and safety equipment to the fisherfolk and winners of the said event.

The declared winners were Bruce Ignacio, Christian Gello-agan, and George Tianggana who placed first, second, and third, respectively.

The activity gathered 24 boats for the shoreline fishing, commemorating the โ€œpagbinuligayโ€ or cooperation amongst fishermen within the city.

Competitors were informed of strict adherence to responsible fishing practices through legal fishing methods, reduction of waste dumped in the sea, and marine conservation, which were all put to use along with the coastal clean-up conducted through the same event.

The tournament further showcased the importance of the university's commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs), namely UNSDG 14: Life Below Water, UNSDG 12: Responsible Consumption and Production, and UNSDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities.
