Two artificial coral beds, attached with the collected coral fragments, were constructed by JCI Regatta in collaboration with John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, Stolt Tankers, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, Guimaras Environment and Natural Resources, and Gerbo Dive Resort as part of its Guimaras Island Coral Restoration Program on March 22.
The initiative took place at Puerto Del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras where five company-sponsored cadets of Stolt-Nielsen Philippines, Inc. from JBLFMU-Arevalo and JBLFMU-Molo participated.
The project aims to enhance the resilience of coral reefs by promoting the growth of new coral colonies through coral restoration efforts and increasing overall reef biodiversity.
Furthermore, JCI Regatta official stated that these efforts emphasized the "university's commitment to environmental protection, as expressed in its Integrated Management System policy and its support to JCI Regatta in championing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (UNSDG) 14: Life Under Water and honoring the World Water Day."
"Submerged beneath the waves, our team embarks on a mission of rejuvenation, tending to coral gardens amid the bustling marine environment. Each coral we grow symbolizes our dedication to preserving the ocean and nurturing stewardship for the planet's crucial ecosystems," JCI Regatta added.
