Honing globally competent seafarers and instructors.
2/M Loren Steve G. Glumalid, a recipient of the Maritime Instructorโs Training (MIT) Scheme (Advance Course) from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc., is presently in Japan to finalize the course designed to enhance maritime teaching skills and equip maritime instructors with current technical information, with regards to their profession.
Upon knowing that he was chosen, 2/M Glumalid shared his first thoughts.
"When I found out that I was chosen by our Dean, C/M Virmari S. Tan, Ph.D., Director of International Affairs-JBLF System, as the Universityโs representative for Japan's MIT Course, I was both astonished and honoredโmy initial reaction was one of disbelief. But soon, it transformed into a profound sense of responsibility. I felt an overwhelming sense of gratefulness that my efforts were recognized and that I was entrusted with this significant opportunity," 2/M Glumalid declared.
Notably, 2/M Glumalid also highlighted that the achievement was not merely his own but would be a good opportunity for JBLFMU-Arevalo as a whole.
"This selection is not only a personal achievement but also a reflection of the trust and confidence that the university has placed in me. More importantly, it motivates me to represent our university with excellence and to use this training course as a platform to bring back valuable knowledge and insights that can benefit both our students and colleagues," he added. The said training course is held by the Seamen's Employment Center of Japan (SECOJ) and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport, and Tourism (MLIT) of Japan, in collaboration with the STCW Office of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA).
There are a total of five maritime instructors brought out to attend the course. Including 2/M Glumalid, two more instructors from the Maritime Academy of Asia and the Pacific were invited, another from Palompon Institute of Technology, and also one from Our Lady of Fatima University. Moreover, the pre-screening process for the representatives, which includes the submission of requirements, was done by MARINA; on the other hand, the SECOJ created the final list of applicants.
