In celebration of UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2024, the MIL Innovation Hub, Communication Foundation for Asia, and the PUP College of Communication, in partnership with the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL), held the 4th International Webinar on Conversations with Media and Information Literacy Experts, October 26 via Zoom.
The session, titled “Transitioning to MIL Cities: Challenges and Prospects,” featured prominent speakers, including Dr. Felipe Chibas Ortiz, Executive Coordinator of the International Center for Innovation and Development of MIL Cities at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Dr. Emmanuel Komi Kounakou, Director of Research and Partnership at PAFEME, Quebec, Canada; and Dr. Alexander Rosete, City Administrator of Malabon City Hall, Philippines.
Faculty members from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, including Dr. Ronald John Cyril Emague, Dr. Elsie Gancia, and Dr. Louise May Lim, alongside the university library team led by Chief Librarian Dr. Marite Vargas, and staff from The Seagull publication, participated in the discussion.
The webinar underscored the essential role of MIL cities in nurturing democratic societies in the digital age and provided insights on how individuals can contribute to promoting Media and Information Literacy within their communities.
The discussion was moderated by Dr. Jose Reuben Alagaran II, Dean of the PUP College of Communication.
