Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation

The Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation is a higher education degree program that covers competences defined under PQF level 6 and Table A-II/1 and some elements of Table A-II/2 of the STCW code indicated in Section II, II.1 and other national and international requirements.

It deals with the study of navigation, cargo handling and stowage, controlling the safe operation and care for persons onboard the ship at the operational level.

This degree involves a 3-year Theoretical Academic studies in its Arevalo campus and a 12-month apprenticeship period on vessels either of near sea or international trade. This is the preparatory course that leads to a professional career in the maritime industry as a deck officer.

SEAGOING SERVICE FOR BSMT AND BSMARE PROGRAMS

Onboard Training of Shipboard Training as a requirement for the BSMT and BSMarE Programs is a mandatory minimum requirement for every candidate for certification as an officer in charge of a navigational watch of ships of 500 gross tonnage or more and for every officer in charge of an engineering watch in a manned engine-room or as designated duty engineer in a periodically unmanned engine-room of ships powered by main propulsion machinery of 750 kW or more. Shipboard Training pertains to the seagoing service covered by STCW ‘78, as amended.

SUBMITS REQUIRED DOCUMENTS

Transcript of Records for Shipboard Training Purposes, CAR certification, Certificate of attendance in SBT, TRB, DJ orientation, and other pertinent documentary requirements.

ENROLS SHIPBOARD TRAINING

Student pays downpayment for shipboard enrolment; STO facilitates insurance for domestic shipboard training.

ACQUIRES TRB/DJ REPORTS FOR FINAL BRIEFING

Cadet is re-oriented on requirements for shipboard training and monitoring.

EMBARKS FOR SHIPBOARD TRAINING

Parents/Guardians are informed to furnish STO copies of pertinent documents.

Bachelor of Science in Criminology Major in Maritime Safety and Security

The Bachelor of Science in Criminology or Criminal Justice is a four-year degree program intended for individuals who wish to have a career in the fields of law enforcement, security administration, crime detection and prevention of correctional administration particularly in maritime.

Senior High School

(Pre-Baccalaureate Maritime Specialization)

The Basic Education department provides the students with a strong and solid foundation for the tertiary Merchant Marine Officers courses and quality basic education in line with the Department of Education policies and standards guided by the vision and mission of JBLF as a reputable institution in Maritime Education. It implements a curriculum development program with enrichment courses in swimming, computer, and basic seamanship. Swimming, basic safety courses, first aid at sea, firefighting, survival craft handling are given due emphases in Basic Seamanship course in high school.
