𝐉𝐁𝐋𝐅𝐌𝐔-𝐌𝐎𝐋𝐎 𝐉𝐎𝐈𝐍𝐒 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐂𝐎𝐀𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐋 𝐂𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐍-𝐔𝐏 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐈𝐓𝐘 𝐈𝐍𝐈𝐓𝐈𝐀𝐓𝐄𝐃 𝐁𝐘 𝐏𝐓𝐂 𝐒𝐄𝐀 𝐌𝐀𝐑𝐈𝐍𝐄𝐑𝐒

In line with the shared commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, a Coastal Clean-Up Activity was successfully conducted on 29 July 2026 along the coastal area of Villa Arevalo, Iloilo City. The initiative was facilitated by the Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) Sea Mariners Program and spearheaded by the City Environment and Natural Resources Office (CENRO) District VI, bringing together volunteers from various academic institutions and maritime organizations in support of coastal conservation.


The activity was participated in by volunteers from the Community Extension Services of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Molo) Inc., John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo) Inc., the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA) 601st Coast Guard Auxiliary Squadron (CGAS), the Coast Guard District Western Visayas (CGDWV), and the Coast Guard Auxiliary District Western Visayas (CGADWV) among others. The collective participation of students, faculty members, uniformed personnel, and auxiliary volunteers demonstrated a strong sense of environmental responsibility, community partnership, and a shared commitment to sustainable communities.

The clean-up operation focused on the removal of solid waste and marine debris along the shoreline to help protect the coastal ecosystem, improve environmental sanitation, and promote public awareness on the importance of proper waste management. Participants worked collaboratively in collecting plastic waste, bottles, cans, packaging materials, and other debris that had accumulated along the coastline, contributing to the protection of marine life and the responsible management of natural resources.



As a result of the coordinated effort, a total of sixty-five (65) assorted sacks of waste, weighing approximately 670 kilograms, were collected and properly turned over for disposal. The significant volume of waste gathered highlighted both the environmental challenges faced by coastal communities and the positive impact that volunteer-driven initiatives can make in preserving healthy oceans and coastal ecosystems for present and future generations.

Beyond the clean-up itself, the activity served as an opportunity to strengthen partnerships among government agencies, educational institutions, and volunteer organizations while instilling the values of environmental stewardship, civic responsibility, and volunteerism among the participants. It also reinforced the importance of collective action in promoting environmental sustainability and protecting the country's coastal and marine environment.



The successful implementation of the Coastal Clean-Up Activity reflects the continuing collaboration among PTC Sea Mariners, CENRO District VI, JBLFMU-Molo, JBLFMU-Arevalo, PCGA 601st CGAS, CGDWV, CGADWV and other agencies in advancing sustainable environmental initiatives and fostering a culture of volunteerism and community service. Through activities such as this, the participating organizations reaffirm their commitment to protecting life below water, promoting responsible environmental practices, building sustainable communities, and strengthening partnerships that create lasting positive impacts for Iloilo City and beyond.
