From over a thousand applicants across Southeast Asia, only ten were selected to compete at the ASEAN Youth Speech Contest 2026 in Bangkok, Thailand. Among them was an Ilonggo who carried with him the pride of his community, university, and country.
Mdpn. Paul Jedrick Villanueva of John B. Lacson Maritime University (Molo), Inc. represented the Philippines with distinction, bringing a voice shaped by his roots in Iloilo and strengthened through training and mentorship at JBLFMU-Molo.
His journey reflects courage, discipline, and determination. From local preparation to the international stage, he demonstrated that a voice grounded in identity can resonate across borders. In Bangkok, he stood among ASEAN youth, contributing to a shared platform of ideas and perspectives.
This achievement was made possible through the guidance of his coach, Dr. Elsie F. Gancia, who relentlessly trained and accompanied him during the competition. The university also recognizes the dedicated support of the JBLFMU-Molo team, including Dr. Roland John Cyril Emague, 3/E Loudel John Mabanes, Mr. Trix Kenn Tusan, and Dr. Louise May Lim of JBLFMU-Molo's International Relations Office for their role in his screening, application, and training. The same gratitude goes to the supportive administration of the university, Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite.
