On October 30, 2024, the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, in partnership with JBLFMU, launched the first phase of reviewing and updating the Management Plan of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS). The activity brought together a technical working group comprising representatives from DENR-PENRO Guimaras, GENRO, MLGU Nueva Valencia, JBLFMU, BFAR, and the local tourism sector, ensuring a comprehensive and productive discussion.
During the session, participants conducted a SWOT analysis and updated the sanctuary’s vision, mission, management goals, and objectives to strengthen its governance and sustainability strategies. Ms. Rachel Ann Dequilla from DENR-PENRO Guimaras served as facilitator and consultant, guiding the group in collaborative planning.
This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 14, promoting effective management and conservation of marine ecosystems for long-term ecological and community benefits.
