• John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo (JBLFMU-Molo) served as the host for the Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA)
    Awarding, Closing, Turning-Over, and General Assembly held earlier today at the CSM Function Hall.

    A key moment of the event was the turnover of the chairmanship from Dr. Ronald Raymond Sebastian, the outgoing Chairman of the Board,
    to Dr. Ma. Lourdes De Leon of Iloilo Doctors’ College, who has been appointed as the new Chairwoman.

    The ILOPRISAA Board is comprised of members from several prominent schools in the region, including JBLFMU-Molo, Iloilo Doctors’ College,
    Central Philippine University, Western Institute of Technology, Hua Siong College of Iloilo, Ateneo de Iloilo, and the University of San Agustin.

    During the ceremony, plaques of appreciation were awarded to the outgoing committee chairmen for their service, while plaques of membership were
    distributed to institutions for the first time.

    As the ILOPRISAA gears up for its next event, the association has tentatively scheduled the annual sports competition for either the last week of November or the first week of December.

  • JBLFMU-Molo successfully conducted a cleanup drive earlier today, September 13, starting at 6 AM at the Iloilo Esplanade. 

    The initiative was spearheaded by the Community Extension Services (CES) Office, with active participation from students across various organizations,
    including The Polaris Organization, CESS, ROTC, and RCY.

    This activity was held in support of the National Clean-up Month and the Adopt-an-Estero Waterbody Project.

    Together, the participants made a significant and lasting impact by actively promoting environmental responsibility, raising awareness about the importance
    of sustainability, and contributing to keeping the community clean and vibrant for everyone to appreciate now and in the future.

  • John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo (JBLFMU-M) participated in a coastal clean-up drive in support of International Coastal Clean-up Day, as part of the Maritime Week Celebration, along the shores of Molo and Arevalo, Iloilo City, on September 21.


    The activity was joined by faculty, staff, NSTP-CWTS, TVC, Maritime Education and Business and Management students, as well as various recognized clubs and organizations from the JBLFMU-Molo community.


    This initiative aimed to preserve and maintain cleaner and more sustainable marine life and sanctuaries.
  • John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo (JBLFMU-Molo) has been officially granted Autonomous Status by the Commission on Higher Education (CHED), following the provisions outlined in Republic Act No. 7722 and the 1987 Philippine Constitution.

    The status, effective from September 16, 2024, to September 15, 2027, recognizes the university’s strong academic performance from July 1, 2019, to September 15, 2023.

    This achievement highlights JBLFMU-Molo's resilience during pandemic-related challenges and its consistent commitment to educational excellence.

  • Western Visayas is marking the 25th National Maritime Week (NMW) from September 22 to 29, 2024, honoring the significant contributions of Filipino seafarers to the nation and the world.

    The celebration officially kicked off today, September 23, with a series of activities, starting with the simultaneous blowing of ship horns and dressing of vessels and schools across the region.  A Eucharistic mass at St. Clements Church in Lapaz, Iloilo, followed the morning rituals.

    A Walk for a Cause, organized in partnership with various maritime schools and government agencies like the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) and the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA), brought participants to the Iloilo Sports Complex Gymnasium, where the main program is being held.

    In addition, a Photo and Equipment Exhibit is taking place at the Festive Walk Mall, one of the event's co-presenters, showcasing maritime innovations and tools.

    “National Maritime Week in Western Visayas is a regional celebration held in the last week of September, focusing on the maritime industry's importance. Activities include educational seminars, sports, environmental initiatives, and community events,” according to NMW-Western Visayas organizers.

    The event, presented by the Philippine Coast Guard, is co-presented by Women in Maritime Philippines (WIMAPHIL) and St. Therese MTC Colleges, and aims to highlight the industry's role in both the local and global economy through various educational and community-centered initiatives.

  • JBLFMU (Molo), Inc. joined the Synchronized Online Flag Ceremony hosted by PAMI, in celebration of the Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANAMo) 2024! 

    Themed "Pamana ng Karagatan: Para sa Kinabukasan, Atin Ingatan," this event emphasized the vital role of maritime resources, including our Filipino seafarers, in driving the nation’s economic prosperity, security, and stability.

    A special message from President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. highlighted the power of unity, stating, "...all of us working together, we will soon harvest the fruits of our hard work… for a sustainable and greener future for everyone to enjoy." Senate President Francis Escudero also sent his warm greetings in celebration of this significant occasion.

    PAMI President Mr. Sabino Czar Clomma Manglicmot II extended his heartfelt gratitude to all participating maritime institutions, recognizing their dedication in shaping the future of the maritime industry.

    In addition, we proudly celebrated our very own MSAP Topnotchers! Keith Jenzen Robles Delmo (Top 2) and Leonard Fenequito III (Top 6) were acknowledged for their outstanding achievements, with Engr. Roberto Neal Sobrejuanite inspiring students to follow in their footsteps.

  • Mdpn. Andreu Benedict Peñaflor secured a spot in the Top 10 of the 15th On-the-Spot Art Contest during the 29th National Seafarers' Day (NSD), held at the AMOSUP Convention Hall in Intramuros, Manila, on September 24.

    With the 29th NSD theme "Marinong Filipino: Ligtas na Paglalayag!", the contest featured 33 participants, both online and face-to-face, from various maritime schools in the Philippines.
    The National Seafarers' Day Committee led by Stella Maris-Philippines and the Philippine Coast Guard organized the event in partnership with several maritime organizations.

Her exceptional leadership and tireless dedication to maritime education at John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Molo), Inc. (JBLFMU-Molo, Inc.) have earned her a place among the region's top maritime professionals.


    Dr. Torres currently serves as the Tech-Voc Center Head of JBLFMU-Molo, Inc., where she has continuously championed the development of maritime vocational education, fostering innovation and ensuring that students are well-equipped with industry-relevant skills. Her commitment to nurturing young maritime professionals has significantly contributed to the advancement of the maritime workforce.
    Dr. Torres' innovative spirit is exemplified by her pioneering initiatives within the university. She is the Founder and Past Program Head of the Bachelor of Science in Cruise Ship Management Program, a groundbreaking course designed to prepare students for careers in the cruise industry, focusing on hospitality and management roles onboard.

    In addition, she founded the 10-Months Institutional Basic Seafarer’s Catering Management Course, an intensive program aimed at equipping seafarers with the skills necessary to excel in catering and food service management on ships. Her work has been instrumental in shaping the curriculum, ensuring it aligns with international maritime standards.

    As a faculty member of the College of Business and Management, she imparts her vast knowledge and experience, influencing the next generation of maritime leaders.

  • Three delegates from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University- Molo, Inc. joined in the 4th International Convention on Students Affairs and Services held at Venus Parkview Hotel, Baguio City, October 2-4.


    The three days event is composed of different exhilarating competitions, dynamic talks and acknowledging the Top Outstanding Student Leaders of the Philippines (OSLP) 2024 whose leadership truly made a remarkable impact.

    The convention was participated by Mdpwn. Fatima Louise Pumaren, The Seagull's Editor-in-Chief together with Lance Quisto, SSG President alongside with Mr. Raymund Benedick S. Brillantes.

    With the theme "Navigating the Digital Landscape in SAS for Empowered Leaders", Student Affairs and Services aims to develop the leadership and enhance every student leaders' capabilities in achieving a goal.
    "Leading with purpose and empathy, embrace challenges and opportunity as growth, and have fun while celebrating the journey as a leader," Dr. Kuan Yee Han emphasized on his closing remarks.

    The International Convention on Student Affairs and Services (ICSAS) brings together global professionals, educators, and student leaders around the country to explore trends, challenges, and innovations in student development.

  • Fostering Global Connections: In a productive virtual meeting this afternoon between John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Molo), Inc.'s BS Tourism Management Program and Osaka Seikei University's Department of Global Tourism and Management, both institutions discussed exciting plans for the upcoming BSTM 3 Study Visit to Osaka, Japan. Dr. Ring, Deputy Director of Osaka Seikei University's International Exchange Center, Vice President, Dean of Department of Global Tourism and Management Prof. Yoshimi Kunieda and Vice Dean Prof. Takashi Karakawa, expressed enthusiasm for crafting meaningful activities that will highlight campus tours, best practices, and more.


    Facilitated by JBLFMU-Molo's International Relations office, the collaboration promises to deliver impactful experiences for all.   • The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) has forged a new partnership with Synergygroup Operations, Inc., opening doors of opportunity for its female cadets.

    Representatives from Synergy Group visited JBLFMU to offer scholarship and placement programs to the university’s female students taking BS Marine Engineering and BS Marine Transportation.

    This collaboration aims to promote gender equality and inclusivity within the maritime industry, providing female cadets with valuable career paths.

    The Synergygroup team was led by Capt. Krishna Mundath, Director, and included Miss Phoebe Baczynski, Chairperson, Miss Christina Amparado, Officer-in-charge of the Synergy Iloilo Branch, and Mr. Nick Andrew Galve, Assistant Marketing and Sourcing Manager.

    JBLFMU officials, including Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, CEO, Engr. Roberto Neal Sobrejuanite, Administrator of JBLFMU-Molo, Inc., and Capt. Luis G. Evidente Ph.D, Executive Assistant of the CEO for External Affairs, were also present for a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) signing.

  • In celebration of UNESCO Global Media and Information Literacy Week 2024, the MIL Innovation Hub, Communication Foundation for Asia, and the PUP College of Communication, in partnership with the Philippine Association for Media and Information Literacy (PAMIL), held the 4th International Webinar on Conversations with Media and Information Literacy Experts, October 26 via Zoom.

    The session, titled “Transitioning to MIL Cities: Challenges and Prospects,” featured prominent speakers, including Dr. Felipe Chibas Ortiz, Executive Coordinator of the International Center for Innovation and Development of MIL Cities at the University of Sao Paulo, Brazil; Dr. Emmanuel Komi Kounakou, Director of Research and Partnership at PAFEME, Quebec, Canada; and Dr. Alexander Rosete, City Administrator of Malabon City Hall, Philippines.

    Faculty members from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, including Dr. Ronald John Cyril Emague, Dr. Elsie Gancia, and Dr. Louise May Lim, alongside the university library team led by Chief Librarian Dr. Marite Vargas, and staff from The Seagull publication, participated in the discussion.

    The webinar underscored the essential role of MIL cities in nurturing democratic societies in the digital age and provided insights on how individuals can contribute to promoting Media and Information Literacy within their communities.

  • In a strategic move to bolster its internationalization agenda, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) embarked on a benchmarking visit to
    Iloilo Science and Technology University (ISAT U) last Tuesday, October 22, 2024.

    Hosted by ISAT U’s Vice President of External Affairs, Dr. Nemia Mabacquiao, the visit provided an invaluable sharing of ISAT U of their best practices in internationalization.

    The ISAT U team, including national and international coordinator of College of Industrial Technology, Ms. Angeline Basco, Marketing and Communications Officer Ms. Jieza Napone, and UNEVOC Focal Person Ms. Lyza Belle Lagura, shared key strategies for fostering cross-border partnerships and enhancing global outreach.

    JBLFMU’s delegation, led by Dr. Virmari Tan from the International Relations Office, along with coordinators Dr. Louise May Lim, 2/M Aldin Turija, MMM and Mr. Jun Montano, expressed their dedication to strengthening the university’s global education programs.

    The exchange emphasized the importance of collaboration among regional higher education institutions to achieve internationalization goals.

    Both universities are optimistic that this partnership will open doors to future joint initiatives, global research opportunities, and exchange programs, contributing to the overall advancement of education in the region.   • JBLFMU-Molo hosted an HIV and AIDS awareness campaign today, November 6, at the university gymnasium. The event featured Angelito P. Sanguyo, president and founder of RED Charity Community, who discussed the crucial importance of HIV awareness for maritime professionals.


    In his talk, Sanguyo emphasized the unique vulnerabilities that seafarers face regarding sexually transmitted infections (STIs). According to *Officer of the Watch*, HIV prevalence among seafarers is notably high, with studies indicating rates as high as 22% in specific regions, particularly Southeast Asia. This high rate is attributed to factors such as high-risk sexual behaviors, limited access to healthcare, and insufficient HIV prevention resources, all of which are common challenges for those in the maritime industry.


    The campaign aims to empower students with knowledge and encourage preventive measures, highlighting the need for vigilance and awareness as they prepare to enter the maritime profession.

  • JBLFMU is pleased to welcome back Veritas Maritime Corporation for the signing of a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) involving our cadets and their parents. Recently, five deck cadets and six cook cadets were selected and participated in their MOA signing.

  • From October 31- 02 November 2024, Dr. Louise May Lim presented her research titled "Media, Information, and Digital Literacy of Maritime U's CBM Students: A Basis for a Critical Media and Digital Literacy Program Toward Global Citizenship Education," co-authored with Dr. Angeli Sebastian, at this year’s Asian Congress for Media and Communication.


    Joined by one of the panel chairs/moderators in the recently concluded's ACMC International Conference in the University of Social Science and Humanities-VNU in Ho Chi Minh City, Viet Nam, Dr. Elsie Garcia from the College of Maritime Education, Dr. Lim showcased JBLFMU-Molo’s commitment to advancing media and digital literacy on an international stage.

    This university-funded international Conference presentation and participation, led by Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite, aims to strengthen global citizenship education by enhancing critical media literacy among students.
