In a world where environmental challenges have reached critical levels, finding innovative solutions to foster sustainability has become more crucial than ever. The Circular Connect Workshop, is an inspiring event which took place in Park Inn by Radisson on July 27, 2023. The Environmental and Leadership Workshop aimed to bring student leaders together along with other industry leaders, entrepreneurs, environmentalist, and academe of different colleges and universities across Western Visayas to explore the potential of the circular economy and its role in creating a more sustainable future. SSG Executives Mdpn. Joppy Castillo, Mdpwn. Bliss Segovia and Mdpn. Matthew Luise Bagnisal represented the students of JBLCF-Bacolod. Ms. Amabel Subong, Pollution Control Officer and Mr. Ivan Gayotin, CES Officer were also present in the event.

In order to diminish marine litter, the workshop "Circular Connect: Localized Solutions to Marine Litter in the Western Visayas Region" aims to reduce waste leakage. The goal of Circular Connect is to give the academic community and the youth sector a competitive platform to create various circular economy solutions that will aid in tackling the regional waste management concerns in an urban and small island setting.
The joint initiative between DENR and GIZ, 3RproMar (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle to Protect the Marine Environment and Coral Reefs), has the primary goal of supporting ASEAN Member States (AMS) in enhancing their implementation capacities to reduce land-based waste leakage and protect the marine environment. The event's primary focus was on collaborative engagement. Participants hailed from various sectors and HEI’s. Workshops, seminars, and interactive sessions were designed to encourage dialogue and foster partnerships among attendees.
The Circular Connect Workshop featured a lineup of inspiring keynote speakers who are thought leaders and pioneers in the field of sustainability and one of the highlights of the workshop was the showcase of innovative solutions and products that exemplified circular economy principles.
The Circular Connect Workshop is not only a one-time event. Participants were encouraged to form collaborations and develop action plans to implement circular economy practices in their organizations.
SSG President, Mdpn. Joppy Castillo and SSG Vice President, Mdpwn. Bliss Segovia are expected to represent JBLCF-B and JBLFMU in the upcoming Innovation Competition implemented by Circular Cities Asia (CCAsia) in coordination with the 3RproMar project this upcoming September 2023.
