A total of 50 and 300 mangrove propagules were bagged and planted at the Second Immersion activity at John B. Lacson Foundation Center Puerto Del Mar (PDM), last January 30. Mangrove bagging, planting, and gardening were carried out by the selected volunteers from Community Extension Services Society, Green Team, and Polaris Class Organization, and also together with selected faculty and staff.
This activity was a collaborative effort of Community Extension Services, headed by Mrs. Mirazol D. Dionson, and the Pollution Control Officer, Capt. Julyven C. Juanica, conducted as part of their Annual Operation Plan.
They also monitored ecological sites in the surrounding area, raising awareness for the volunteers on the significance of the mangrove forest through planting, bagging, and monitoring.
The first immersion activity also focused on mangrove preservation and ecological gardening was held last year at this 45-hectare integrated ecosystem and educational center, which serves as a center for research and community outreach.
This participation aligns with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals: Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Climate Action (SDG 13), Life Below Water (SDG 14), Life on Land (SDG 15), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
