The Editor-In-Chief of The Dolphin Publication, Mdpn. Francis C. Baldemor, secured first place in the Student Designer of the Year award at the 25th Annual Michigan State University Society of News Design (MSUSND) Contest.
Since its establishment in 1995, MSUSND has been instrumental in broadening the expertise of student visual journalists through its annual design contests, which bring together professionals and students alike.
This prestigious competition for college students commenced in 2000, serving as a platform for students to showcase their work not only from campus publications but also from class projects, jobs, or internships
"[I've] been trying to join here for many years now," Mdpn. Baldemor expressed his sentiments as he was overwhelmed with the results.
Starting off as a junior layout artist and eventually becoming as the EIC of this publication, Mdpn. Baldemor took his experience in Oton National High School as a former Special Program in Journalism (SPJ) graduate.
"Failure, as I've come to realize, breeds competence in our craft—a lesson I learned the hard way in high school and even more so in college," he penned in his Facebook appreciation post.
Among his submitted designs include: cover of The Dolphin Magazine Vol. 62 — "Revival," cover of The Dolphin Newsletter Vol. 62 No. 2, The Dolphin Magazine Vol. 63 — "Prospicience," and The Dolphin's Editorial Board.
Judges of the said competition were from US-based newspapers and magazines namely from New York Times, The Wall Street Journal, Time Magazine, New Pragmatic, The Atlantic, and more.
