John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. was granted a “very satisfactory” rating from the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) in its drill evaluation report, August 30.
The university conducted its first fire drill, highlighting preparedness among faculty members, staff, and students in order to reduce the record of incidents inside the campus from fire disasters.
“Scoring nine is a great feat already. Our university motto when it comes to disaster risk reduction is ‘keep on improving’ because disaster nowadays evolves also,” Disaster Risk Reduction Unit (DRRU) Adviser and Safety Officer 2/M Karl Danielle H. Sira emphasized.
Fire emergencies were simulated as well as fire accidents and other fire evacuations areas to instruct students, faculty members, and staff what to do in case these happen.
The drill was facilitated by the university’s DRRU units, 802nd National Reserve Officers' Training Corps Unit (NROTCU)–safety unit, College Red Cross Youth (CRCY), and Student Executive Council (SEC)–safety unit along with the Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) of Iloilo City.
