Story by Mdpn. Jade Apdua and Mdpn. Kiann Marteen Baldo

After the furious synchronization and retaliation of kicks and punches, the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University taekwondo team clinched the number one spot finishing with three golds, three silvers, and two bronze medals in the Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) games via kyurogi and group poomsae men on January 22, held at Vista Mall.

In the kyurogi category, Midshipmen Jaren Juridico, Leone Adrue Leonor, and Karl De La Cruz steered the team to a gold finish, followed by a silver medal from Midshipmen Justin Junsay, John Keneth Gonzales, and Gustillo, and Mdpn. Christian Dave Pontaoy, who earned bronze.

Meanwhile, Mdpn. Ram Angelo Escander settled for a runner-up finish in the individual poomsae men but came back for redemption, securing bronze in the group poomsae men event along with Mdpn. Clarence Naelga and Mdpn. JM Laurence Lavilla.

The team was coached by Dr. Camila Jill Bellandres and Mr. Mark Pinggol.

Poomsae event is a sequence of Taekwondo techniques linked together into a pattern of moves, and Kyurogi is considered sparring in taekwondo.
