Annual faculty, staff, and the 13th Student Research Colloquium featured different research that aims to innovate maritime education at JBL Hall, March 26.
The faculty and staff presented a total of six research studies with Capt. Luis G. Evidente and Dr. Nenita V. Quiรฑon as the panellists.
The 13th Student Research Colloquium succeeded the faculty and staff event where the graduating student researchers took center stage with their respective research outputs.
This yearโs panellists were Dr. John Erwin Prado Pedroso, Associate Professor V, West Visayas State University; Capt. Jorge P. Aborde, System Course Developer/Assessor, JBLFMU; and finally, Dr. Felipe P. Vista, University Director, Research and Development Services.
From studentsโ participation in the universityโs peer mentoring program and employment challenges faced by maritime graduates to the novel approach of developing a software prototype to predict navigational risks, a total of seven papers were presented at the colloquium.
Simultaneously, a research poster presentation contest was held at the JBL Lobby consisting of 20 entries.
After all the papers were presented and adjudged, the research paper entitled โDevelopment of Software Prototype: A Novel Tool in Predicting Navigational Risksโ garnered First Place in Best Paper Presentation as well as the Best Paper Award; meanwhile, Mdpn. Jhonard Quirino, who was the presenter of the aforementioned research paper, was hailed as the Best Paper Presenter.
On the other hand, the second and third places in Best Paper Presentation were given to paper number four, entitled โPassengers' Satisfaction with Port Facilities in the Philippines and Its Safety Measures,โ and paper number three, โRelationship between Studentโs Learning Motivation and their Academic Performance: Bases for the Development of Intervention Programs,โ respectively.
Group number 10 with their research poster presentation entitled โPrejudices Onboard Ship: Basis for Development of an Intervention Programโ was awarded First Place in Best Poster Presentation, followed by entry number five โLevel of Effectiveness of RADAR/ARPA Simulators on the Students' Skill Enhancement and Decision-Making Proficiency in Collision Avoidanceโ in second place and entry number 17 โLevel of Effectiveness of the Use of GMDSS Simulators to the Students' Competency in Maritime Communication: Basis for Crafting an Enhancement Program" as the third place.
