With the aim to hone the journalistic skills of the staffers and selected students, The Dolphin Publication successfully convened โCampus Journalism Refresher and Training Workshop 2025โ at the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. (JBLFMU-A) library on April 29.
Hosted by The Dolphinโs current Editor-in-Chief (EIC), Mdpn. Jhonard P. Quirino, the program was a series of lectures and writing workshops with invited JBLFMU-A alumni.
For the first speaker, D/C Alexis Carl B. Tabasin, who served as the senior news editor for The Dolphin for the academic year (A.Y.) 2023-2024, discussed news and feature/creative writing, highlighting the importance of โanglesโ and creating a captivating lead paragraph.
He was then followed by D/C John Euclid P. Parreรฑo, the Dolphinโs Managing Editor for the same academic year, who tackled the fundamentals of opinion and editorial writing, explaining the different types and styles of writing such articles.
The last speaker was D/C Francis C. Baldemor, who was the Dolphinโs EIC in the same year, who then delved into the realm of page design and photojournalism, teaching basic concepts and aspects of layout and capturing photos that hold stories.
Afterwards, the cliniquing of the writersโ outputs was done, wherein their articles were assessed by the speakers.
