As the academic year 2024-2025 comes to an end, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. held an Onboard Training Orientation for third-year Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation students along with their parents on May 23, 2025, at the JBL Hall.
Facilitated by the Onboard Training Office (OBTO), the program was divided into two sessions: sections Car Carrier, Brigantine, Bulk Carrier, Ship, Sloop, Tanker, Catamaran, Schooner, and Schooner Ketch participated in the morning, while sections Half Brig, Ketch, Brig, Polaris 3B, Barque, Barquentine, Polaris 3A, and Yawl attended the afternoon session.
The orientation proper was done by Capt. Jason June Almonte, Onboard Training Supervisor, who discussed the Onboard Training (OBT) processes, monitoring, OBT requirements and proper processing, and also social media etiquette.
He was then followed by 2/M Jan Patrick Miraflores, who went in-depthโexplaining theย Training Record Book (TRB), Activity Workbook, and Daily Journal of Bridge Watchkeeping Duties, including Onboard Training Guidance.
In addition, Mr. Angelo Fernandez also spoke about JCADETSโan onboard training monitoring application.
As part of the orientation, the students were also familiarized with important documents such as the Placement and Shipboard Monitoring Form and Certificate of Sea Service.
At the end of the program, an open forum was set to cater to the studentsโ and parentsโ concerns and questions.
