Chief Mate Virmari S. Tan, Ph.D., Maritime Education Dean of this university, was elected as Assistant Treasurer of the International Relations Officers (IRO) Council for its first-ever convergence, gathering personnel from the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across Western Visayas in Iloilo State University of Fisheries Science and Technology (ISUFST) Main Campus last March 27.
The day-long event brought together Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Region VI officials and institutional leaders, as well as international affairs officers from 12 private and public institutions.
Doctor Danebeth NarzolesโOIC-SEPS and Internationalization focal of CHEDRO VI, conducted a key session on the presentation of the CHED Internationalization Indicators Matrix for evaluating HEIsโ global efforts.
The morning and afternoon sessions showcased internationalization initiatives: Memorandum of Understanding and mobility programs to transnational research and virtual classrooms.
The event was concluded with an open forum and a renewed regional commitment to deepen internationalization.
Notably, C/M Tan represented John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University as the OIC-Director for International Relations, together with unit coordinators from Arevalo and Moloโ2/M Aldin Turija and Dr. Louise May Lim.
