The Disaster Risk Reduction Unit (DRRU) of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. conducted project 'Pag-Ulikid,' a child-centered approach to disaster resilience, giving a lecture to more than 50 pupils of NJ Ingore Elementary School last September 6, 2025.
The four-hour program included multiple activities such as an interactive discussion regarding DRR, simulation group activities, and a round of Master of Disasters, a board game about how to prepare and respond to the most common disasters.
Mdpn. Prince Ezekiel T. Moreira led this initiative as the project's chairman and DRRU president in collaboration with the Emergency Management Volunteer Response Team, Inc., an adopted rescue team of NJ Ingore ES, and partner organization, Iloilo Science and Technology University College of Arts and Sciences Student Council. (ISAT-U CASSC).
Notably, this initiative aims to empower young learners with essential knowledge and skills to prepare for and respond to disasters as well as strengthen their community preparedness, disaster response, and volunteer engagement in times of emergency.
This partnership aligns with the following United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (UNSDGs): Good Health and Well-Being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 13, Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
