As the territorial battle against China continues, the West Philippine Sea issue once again took center stage during the National Security Forum held at John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. on Saturday, September 21, 2025, at the university's covered gym.

The National Intelligence Coordinating Agency (NICA) reiterated that the country seeks only to safeguard its own territory and maritime entitlements under the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS), particularly its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ), claiming that the country does not aim to claim areas beyond what is legally recognized.

They also emphasized Chinaโ€™s increasingly aggressive actions, which have intensified tensions in the region.

Moreover, the forum tackled security and defense initiatives, including the site's expansion of the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), also raising questions about its urgency and significance in the current situation.

The attendees came from the first-year Reserve Officersโ€™ Training Corps cadets, as well as several members of various student organizations of this university.

Participation in this event aligns with the following United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs): Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10); Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16); and Partnerships for the Goals (SDG 17).
