To advance research excellence through capacity building for innovation and global maritime education, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc. conducted the In-house Research Capability Training and Workshop at the JBL Hall last August 20, 2026.
With the theme: "Anchoring Research Excellence: Building Capacity for Innovation, Collaboration, and Global Maritime Education," the workshop brought together veteran resource speakers from different universities during the plenary sessions.
Dr. John Erwin P. Pedroso, Associate Professor V, Associate Dean, College of Education-Graduate School, West Visayas State University (WVSU) discussed qualitative research and the nature of thematic analysis.
"We must fiercely protect our qualitative integrity from quantitative overshadowing by keeping our analytical focus squarely on deep, social meaning rather than surface numbers," Dr. Pedroso said about the significance of qualitative research.
Meanwhile, Dr. Felipe P. Vista, IV, University Director for R&D Services, Northern Iloilo State University, talked over creative works and the utilization of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in modern research.
He explained that "AI is just your co-pilot, not captain," emphasizing that AI should never be used as the sole commander of a research study but rather a helping hand.
An open forum with the speakers followed the discussions, capped by the Faculty-Due-To-Write Research Writing Workshop.
The event exemplified the following United Nation Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs): Quality Education (SDG 4), Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure (SDG 9), Partnership for the Goals (SDG 17).
