BSMT III Students Slayed in 11th Student Research Colloquium


Proving that the research pillar of the university is strong and promising, the BSMT III students of JBLFMU-Arevalo delivered an impressive performance with their research presentations during the 11th Student Research Colloquium, May 12, 2023 at the JBL Hall.

Securing the coveted 1st place in the over-all ranking is the research study: "Level of Preparedness of BSMT Students in Company Written Exams and Interviews in an Online Class", which was conducted to address the common challenges faced by maritime students in their field. The team was composed of Mdpn. Howard Miles Celiz as the Research Leader with Mdpn. John Kent Castellano, Mdpn. Joshua Anthon Idemne, Mdpn. Eric Jangayo, Mdpn. Dale Matthew Maloto, Mdpn. Dexter Anthony Mayo, Mdpn. John Michael Peñolbo and Mdpn. Karl Perez as members with Dr. Roderick Germo as their adviser. They not only got high praises from the judges but also secured the 2nd place, Best Paper with Mdpn. Peñolbo being named as the Best Presenter.

Securing the 2nd place in the over-all ranking is the research study: "Extent of Influence of Sports on Physical, Emotional, Mental, and Social Health among Second Year BSMT Students".  The team was composed of Mdpn. John Robert Orpeza, Mdpn. Lawrence Jegger Jaleco, Mdpn. Ethel Hope Beramo, Mdpn. Myles Mesa, Mdpn. John Lawrence Minguez, Mdpn. John Robert Orpeza, Mdpn. Matt Jefferson Pilaspilas, Mdpn. Gil Bryan Sabillo Jr. and Mdpn. James Mortin Solidarios with Dr. Germo as their adviser. The group also received 1st place Best Paper with Mdpn. Orpeza bagging the 2nd place as the Best Presenter.

Lastly, the study with a title: "Cadets' Level of Adaptability in Working Environment onboard the Ship Amidst the Pandemic" bagged 3rd place in the over-all ranking and 3rd place, Best Paper.  The team was composed of Mdpn. Daniel Justine Belonio, Mdpn. Reynaldo Alla III, Mdpn. Sherwin Jae Cuben, Mdpn. Christopher Denzil Deocampo, Mdpn. John Stephen Gante, Mdpn. Joshua James Gonzales, Mdpn. Kyle Andre Lavarro and Mdpn. Arman Jun Magno with Dr. Emilie Coo as their adviser.

Meanwhile, Mdpn. Jonathan Barcelona II won 3rd place, Best Presenter.

The panel of judges included in this year's colloquium were Dr. Ma. Cecilia Alimen, a full-time professor of the University of San Agustin; Nenita V. Quinion Ed. D., a retired professor of the University of San Agustin; and Dr. Aurora  Fe C. Bautista, an adjunct professor of the University of the Philippines Open University.

The research colloquium is conducted annually to boost students' confidence, encourage academic excellence, and inspire them to pursue further research and scholarly pursuits.
