In an initiative to provide basic training courses within Iloilo City, 24 second-year Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation (BSMT) students of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Arevalo), Inc., utilized the newly constructed training center within university grounds for pilot testing.
In a span of three days, the Polaris-2A students were to test the training center on firefighting and personal survival techniques, testing new equipment and facilities for basic training worthiness.
On the first day, November 27, the students don new coveralls for a personal survival technique refresher, practicing in a first, jumping on the 10-meter-deep pool while wearing immersion suits.
The second day was on firefighting drills, with the last day on December 2, making the official assessment of the students on all they had learned in the two disciplines.
Furthermore, this marks the first instance of the training center being practiced for pilot testing and soon aiming to be open for second-year students to take their basic training courses within Iloilo City.
