The road to the 2025 In-House Research Capability Enhancement Training Workshop was paved with weeks of preparation, both physically and mentally demanding. Yet the two-day event proved that every effort was worthwhile. The event emphasized that research is not merely an academic requirement but a cornerstone of institutional growth, innovation, and global relevance.
Day 1 was filled with engaging discussions and knowledge sharing:
Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo outlined the JBLFMU Revised System Research Agenda and Process Flow in Research.
Dr. Brian Gil S. Sarinas shared insights on Innovations in Research from the Perspective of JBLFMU’s Top Management.
Mr. Jun C. Montaño, LPT, MBA highlighted the institution’s Plans to Internationalize Research at JBLFC-Bacolod.
Methodological discussions were led by Ms. Irene C. Mamon (Qualitative Research) and Mr. Rogie E. Padernal (Quantitative Research).
3E Paul T. Olimpos presented a Template for Technical Research and Breakthrough Innovations in Marine Engineering at JBLFC.
Dr. Elisa V. Garcia, RL, MSLS introduced Zotero as a Reference Management Tool in Research Writing.
The day continued with workshops on writing the Introduction and Methods sections of research, guided by assigned mentors. These sessions underscored the importance of building capacity not only for academic outputs but also for producing impactful research aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Day 2 of the workshop showcased the culmination of hard work, collaboration, and mentoring as participants presented the drafts of their research proposals. The oral presentations not only reflected their individual commitment but also embodied the collective vision of JBLFC-Bacolod in building a strong research culture.
The day began with a recap and proceeded with intensive oral presentations of draft proposals, where participants received valuable feedback from mentors and peers. These sessions emphasized that research is a dynamic process, one that thrives through critique, refinement, and collaboration.
The awarding of certificates recognized the dedication of the participants, speakers, and mentors who invested time and expertise to strengthen the institution’s research capability. The closing message delivered by C/M John Eril N. Destacamento, PhD, Dean of the College of Maritime Education, reminded everyone of research’s vital role as a driver of innovation, global competitiveness, and transformative education.
By the end of the two-day training, it became clear that research at JBLFC is not only about producing academic outputs, it is about shaping future maritime leaders, empowering faculty and students, and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of society.
“Through research, we innovate; through collaboration, we grow; and through shared vision, we make an impact.”
