Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS) Reaches National Finals


The Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS) has proudly secured a spot in the Top 10 Finals of the Search for Outstanding Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) of the Philippines, organized by the Marine Protected Areas Support Network through the Biennial Para El Mar Awards and Recognition. The awarding ceremony took place at SEAMEO Innotech, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

Hon. Municipal Mayor Emmanuel C. Galila, who also serves as Chairman of the IBMS Management Committee, presented the sanctuary’s exemplary best practices and accomplishments, highlighting its role in marine conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable community engagement. Joining him were Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, Research and Extension Director of JBLFMU; Ms. Maria Josie Segovia of MLGU; and Ms. Rachel Ann Dequilla of DENR-PENRO Guimaras, underscoring strong collaboration among local government, academia, and environmental agencies.

IBMS was previously recognized in October 2019 by the MPA Support Network through Para El Mar as one of the outstanding MPAs in the Philippines, demonstrating its continued leadership in marine resource management.
