• JBLFMU’s commitment to environmental protection once again shone brightly as it received a Certificate of Recognition from the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR)–PENRO Guimaras. The award celebrated the University’s unwavering dedication to programs that safeguard and restore the natural treasures of the province.

    Among its notable efforts is the Padyak Series: A Fun Ride for a Cause, a cycling movement that brings communities together to promote eco-awareness and raise support for conservation initiatives. JBLFMU also spearheaded the Expansion and Sustainable Management of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary, strengthening the protection of one of Guimaras’ most vital marine ecosystems.

    Further solidifying its role as an environmental leader, the University became an official partner in the institutionalization of the Guimaras Alliance of Protected Areas and Sanctuaries (GAPAS), a collaborative network dedicated to long-term ecological stewardship.

    The recognition affirms JBLFMU’s growing legacy as a champion of sustainability.

  • JBLFMU once again proved its steadfast commitment to environmental protection as it received a Certificate of Appreciation from DENR–PENRO Guimaras. The recognition was awarded for the University’s active partnership in the Coastal and Marine Ecosystem Management Program (CMEMP) Year-End Assessment, where it proudly represented the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS) and its Biodiversity-Friendly Enterprise (BDFE) beneficiaries.

    During the assessment, the IBMS initiative stood out among various community-based conservation projects across the province. Its sustainable practices, community involvement, and measurable impact earned it First Prize and the distinction of Best Implementer of BDFE Projects in Guimaras.

    The award affirmed the collaborative spirit between JBLFMU, local stakeholders, and environmental partners—highlighting how shared efforts can create meaningful, lasting change. More than a recognition, it served as motivation for the University to continue championing programs that protect marine ecosystems and uplift the communities that depend on them.

  • The Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS) has proudly secured a spot in the Top 10 Finals of the Search for Outstanding Marine Protected Areas (MPAs) of the Philippines, organized by the Marine Protected Areas Support Network through the Biennial Para El Mar Awards and Recognition. The awarding ceremony took place at SEAMEO Innotech, Commonwealth Avenue, Quezon City.

    Hon. Municipal Mayor Emmanuel C. Galila, who also serves as Chairman of the IBMS Management Committee, presented the sanctuary’s exemplary best practices and accomplishments, highlighting its role in marine conservation, biodiversity protection, and sustainable community engagement. Joining him were Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, Research and Extension Director of JBLFMU; Ms. Maria Josie Segovia of MLGU; and Ms. Rachel Ann Dequilla of DENR-PENRO Guimaras, underscoring strong collaboration among local government, academia, and environmental agencies.

    IBMS was previously recognized in October 2019 by the MPA Support Network through Para El Mar as one of the outstanding MPAs in the Philippines, demonstrating its continued leadership in marine resource management.

  • The Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS) project, led by the JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES), was awarded first place in the Search for Best Community Outreach/Extension Program, organized by the Philippine Association of Colleges and Universities Commission on Accreditation (PACUCOA) Inc.

    The recognition was conferred on December 4, 2020, during the Annual General Assembly held via Zoom Conference, reflecting the resilience of academic institutions in maintaining community engagement amid pandemic restrictions. The award entry was submitted on November 12, 2020, and highlighted IBMS’s outstanding initiatives in marine conservation, community involvement, and sustainable resource management.

    This achievement affirms the JBLFMU CES’s dedication to fostering effective partnerships between academic institutions and local communities, promoting environmental stewardship, and serving as a model for other universities. Through IBMS, JBLFMU demonstrates how education, research, and community outreach can converge to generate meaningful, lasting impact in Guimaras and beyond.

  • The Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS), a public–private partnership between the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) and the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, was awarded Best Performing Protected Area Management Board (PAMB) during the 2025 Guimaras Environmental Award and Recognition held at The Pitstop Hotel on November 28, 2025.

    The award recognizes the project’s strong conservation leadership, consistent scientific monitoring, and effective collaboration with local communities and key partners.

    The award was received by Hon. Emmanuel C. Galila, Municipal Mayor of Nueva Valencia; Aljun Margallo, Protected Area Superintendent; and Dr. Mary Mar E. Jaleco, representing JBLFMU.

    Serving as a model of cooperative governance, the IBMS continues to advance research, education, and community-based resource management, making it a leading benchmark for marine conservation efforts in Guimaras. 

  • JBLFMU–Arevalo bagged Second Place in the PACUCOA Community Extension Services Best Practices Competition and was honored with a Plaque of Recognition and a cash prize during the PACUCOA General Assembly held on December 5, 2025. The award was formally received by Mrs. Ma. Leonora Saul, JBLFMU IMS Representative, and Dr. Eric Madera, JBLFMU–Arevalo Quality Assurance Officer.

    This winning entry showcased JBLFMU–Arevalo’s outstanding framework for planning, implementing, and evaluating community outreach programs. Its needs-driven strategies, strong stakeholder partnerships, and active involvement of students, faculty, and staff resulted in measurable improvements within partner communities and transformative learning experiences for participants.

    The institution’s documented best practices and success stories highlight replicable, sustainable, and high-impact interventions, solidifying JBLFMU–Arevalo’s Second Place win as a remarkable achievement truly worthy of national recognition and emulation.

  • JBLFMU-CES was honored by DENR-PENRO Guimaras as among the 2025 Outstanding Environmental Advocate Partner during the Year-End Assessment on December 22, 2025, at the Pitstop Hotel, Alaguisoc, Jordan, Guimaras.

    The university earned this certificate and plaque of recognition for its unwavering commitment to Guimaras’ ecosystems, from strengthening Marine Protected Areas and the GAPAS alliance to leading biophysical monitoring in the Taklong and Tandog Islands. Through flagship initiatives like the Eco Adventure Camp, JBLFMU-CES has empowered youth leaders and bridged the gap between academia and conservation. This award celebrates a partnership that is truly transforming marine governance and sustainable development.
