From April 16 to 19, 2024, JBLFMU conducted a 4-day Biophysical Assessment of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary to evaluate the ecological health of seagrasses, mangroves, corals, and fish populations using visual census methods. This initiative was made possible through the technical collaboration of the Guimaras Alliance of Protected Areas and Sanctuaries (GAPAS), comprising DENR-PENRO, GENRO, and the local governments of Nueva Valencia and San Lorenzo. Additional support came from Reef Wanderers, Bantay Dagat, JBLF Inc., PCG, and PCGA.
The assessment underscores JBLFMU’s proactive role in marine conservation, safeguarding biodiversity, and enhancing ecological integrity. Through this collaborative effort, the University advances Sustainable Development Goal 14, promoting life below water and ensuring the resilience of Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary for future generations.
