• The Crab Fattening Project is a livelihood initiative of JBLFMU CES in partnership with local fisherfolk from SASFA, designed to provide alternative income opportunities for communities affected by the establishment of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS). This project aligns with IBMS’s goal of promoting sustainable marine resource use while supporting fisherfolk resilience. As of December 11, 2022, only 15 crabs remained in the cages, with local fisherfolk noting that December is not an ideal period for fattening crabs. The project is scheduled to resume in February 2023, ensuring that harvesting and fattening activities coincide with optimal seasonal conditions. Through this initiative, JBLFMU CES fosters community-based sustainable livelihoods, marine conservation awareness, and socio-economic stability, contributing to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals 8, 14, and 1.
