  • JBLCF-BACOLOD joins the Commission on Higher Education in the celebration of Maritime Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo) 2024 in the month of September. The celebration is themed “Pamana ng Karagatan: Ating Ingatan para sa Kinabukasan”.

    This serves as an opportunity to involve and educate our students on the importance of maritime resources, traditions, and ecosystems. Awareness leads to a greater appreciation for maritime history and can inspire future generations to continue the traditions of stewardship and sustainable practices.

    Today, C/M John Erll Destacamento, PhD, led the kick off for the month-long activities. During the flag ceremony, he talked about the importance of celebrating MANA Mo 2024. He emphasized on the areas of Recognizing Cultural Heritage, Promoting Awareness and Education, Encouraging Sustainable Practices and Preserving for Future Generations.

    Lastly he highlighted celebrating Maritime Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month with this theme "Maritime Heritage: Let us Preserve it for our Future", which is an invitation to reflect on the rich maritime heritage, the responsibilities of current generations, and the necessity to protect and preserve these resources and traditions for the future.

    Other activities related to the above mentioned celebration are Video Showing about Puerto del Mar, Life Below Water, Climate Change and Plastic Pollution/Marine Litter, Classroom Integration on Marine Environment Courses of the CME and the International Coastal Clean-up initiative.

    Engr. Sylvino Tupas, JBLCF-Administrator, welcomed the parents and discussed the Trainings for students. 3/E Bernard Sorbito Jr., Quality Assurance Manager, gave an orientation of Mission, Vision, Quality Policy and Objectives of the school. Also, Academic Policies were presented by the CME Dean, C/M John Erll Destacamento and the CBE Dean, Dr. Violeta Neri.

    Mrs. Amelita Ducado, PEA President, gave the President's Report and Mr. Shane Fornis, PEA Treasurer presented the Treasurer's Report.

    This strong partnership not only enhances the student's academic journey but also builds a unified and caring school culture that benefits the stakeholders.

  • Welcome aboard, our Newly-Hired JBLCF- Bacolod Employees!

     The Lacsonian Community welcomed 35 newly-hired employees during the Immersion Activities on September 13, 2024.

     The events include Zumba, Kape-kape, Pahampang, and the Immersion Activities.  This occasion aims to strengthen the bond of employees, to welcome new members of the Lacsonian family, and to renew commitment to the institution. Particularly for the newly-hired employees, these activities provide them with first-hand experiences in building relationships, understanding their roles and responsibilities and learning the institutional culture.

     Meanwhile, immersion activities provided the newly-hired employees an avenue to engage in school advocacies particularly for health and environmental protection.  Earlier this month, they were introduced to the history, vision, mission, objectives, and core values of JBLCF-B and the policies, guidelines, and procedures of the institution. They were also oriented on the proper flow of communication, the functions of the different Departments and taught the proper conduct expected of employees.

     The activities were initiated by the Office of the Human Resource with its head, Mrs. Michelle Jean Villanueva and the working committees.

  • In line with the celebration of Maritime and Archipelagic Nation Awareness Month (MANA Mo 2024), faculty, staff, and students of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation - Bacolod (JBLCF-B) attended the Annual International Coastal Clean-up celebration held at Purok Otso, Barangay Tangub, on September 28.

     The clean-up was coordinated by Ivan June Gayotin, the Community Extension Officer, College of Maritime Education (CME) Dean John Erll Destacamento, and Amabel Subong, the Pollution Control Officer.

     This event was held in collaboration with the student organizations: Supreme Student Government (SSG), Community Extension Services Organization (CESO), Red Cross Youth, Earth Guard Organization (EGO), 824th NROTC, and students from JBLCF-B.

    In partnership with the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) - Pantawid, 4Ps beneficiaries, barangay officials, and the Purok Otso community.

     With this year's theme, 'Pamana ng Karagatan: Ating Ingatan Para sa Kinabukasan,' the main purpose of the clean-up drive is to protect marine and archipelagic territories through coastal cleanup, highlighting the preservation of natural resources for the future.

Lacson Colleges Foundation- Bacolod, Inc. has been honored with a Plaque and a Certificate of Recognition by the Philippine-Japan Manning Consultative Council, Inc. for ranking 6th in Engine Examinations and 14th in Deck Examinations of the Maritime Schools Assessment Program (MSAP) 2024, among 36 participating maritime institutions nationwide on May 17, 2024.

     The awarding took place in an appreciation luncheon on September 27, 2024 at the IMMAJ-PJMCC Training Center JSU-AMOSUP Mariner's Home, Malate, Manila.

    This accomplishment highlights our unwavering commitment to excellence in maritime education and our dedication to shaping the next generation of world-class Filipino marine engineers and officers.

     We extend our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to the JBLCF-B community, students, faculty, staff, and school administration, whose relentless efforts have made this milestone possible.

  • JBLCF - Bacolod successfully conducted an earthquake drill on September 26, as part of the National Earthquake Drill 2024. The exercise involved active participation from students, faculty, and staff, demonstrating their commitment to safety and preparedness.

    Led by the Unit Emergency Response Team, the drill was designed to equip the entire community with the necessary skills and knowledge to respond effectively in the event of an earthquake. Employees and students fully cooperated, executing the "Drop, Cover, and Hold On" protocol and swiftly evacuating to designated safe zones. Their collective effort highlights the importance of fostering a culture of readiness and resilience.

    This drill not only enhances the safety and security of the institution but also serves as a crucial reminder of the significance of being prepared for emergencies. Through regular drills and training, the Lacsonian community continues to prioritize the well-being of its members, ensuring a proactive approach to handling potential disasters.

  • Memorandum of Agreement, Signing Ceremony

    A Memorandum of Agreement for the Maritime Education Scholarship Program between the Provincial Government of Negros Occidental, John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation, Inc. Bacolod and the sponsor shipping companies: Fukujin Kisen Co., Ltd., MISUGA Ship Management Services, Inc., and Briese Schiffahrt Philippines, Inc. was penned on October 30, 2024 at JBLCF- Bacolod Audio-Visual Room.

    Present during the MOA signing for the tripartite agreement were Negros Occidental Governor Hon. Eugenio Jose Lacson, JBLCF-Bacolod Administrator Engr. Sylvino Tupas, Capt. Achilles Cuadra Jr., Chief Executive Officer of Fukujin Kisen Co., Ltd., Mr. Oliver Velasco, Crew Training and Career Development Manager of Misuga Management Services, Inc., Ms. Josephine Evangelio, President of Briese Schiffahrt Philippines, Inc. JBLCF-B representatives, grantees and their parents.

    The Provincial Government shall pay for the tuition and miscellaneous fees of the BS Marine Transportation and BS Marine Engineering scholars while the manning companies are to ensure their employment after one year of shipboard training.  This is under the “Study Now, Pay Later” scheme.

    In their words of gratitude, Mrs. Ma. Zenia Barrios and Mr. Alfredo Dioso expressed their heartfelt appreciation and they emphasized the valuable opportunity granted to their children through the scholarship program. In his inspirational words, Gov. Lacson emphasized on the role of education that can uplift families, strengthen communities and build a resilient and prosperous province.

  • The John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation Bacolod, Inc., along with the John B. Lacson Foundation Inc. Training Centers (Molo, Arevalo, and Guimaras Sites), JBLFMU(Molo), Inc. and JBLFMU (Arevalo), Inc. successfully underwent a rigorous 5-day audit conducted by Bureau Veritas from January 13-17, 2025.
    The institution’s management system and the implementation of the ISO 21001:2018 (Educational Organization Management System) standards were thoroughly audited, resulting in an impressive performance: 7 Positive Observations, 11 Opportunities for Improvement, 0 Minor Non-Conformities, and 0 Major Non-Conformities.
    This achievement highlights the institution's unwavering commitment to delivering quality education and training, while consistently meeting and exceeding the expectations of its stakeholders.
    We share this honor with our students, faculty, staff, alumni, management, industry partners, and all stakeholders who collectively contribute to ensuring that we remain the Maritime Vanguard.

  • The Basic Education Department successfully complied with all the requirements necessary for verification during the monitoring of the private schools in the implementation of the Government Assistance and Subsidies (GAS) Programs on January 22, 2025, by the Regional Office VI, Western Visayas. The monitoring team consisted of Dr. Ruby T. Llave (first from the left) and Dr. Mary Grace M. Jomuad (second from the right) from the Quality Assurance Division of DepEd-Region VI, along with Ms. Thea Marie A. Arguelles (second from the left) from the School Governance and Operations Division of Bacolod City.
    Engr. Sylvino V. Tupas, PhD, the School Administrator, accommodated them for their queries. Likewise, Dr. Ma. Eva M. Hilay, the Principal, made all the documentary evidence available for inspection and answered verification questions. Along with her are Mrs. Edgie C. Lumaud, the High Schol Coordinator; Ms. Jimmylyn L. Colango, the Clerk in charge of LIS; and Ms. Diana Mendez, the Clerk in charge of Records.
    The Region VI DepEd Monitoring Team was warmly welcomed by the Department Heads, who executed the "Champion" hand signal in a show of unity and enthusiasm in support of the programs of the region.

  • The ARES Maritime Scholarship Foundation successfully hosted its 3rd Annual Golf Tournament in support of its Scholarship and Placement Program for John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod, Inc. The Awarding Ceremony for the event took place on March 2, 2025, at the Citadines Hotel in Bacolod City.
    This golf tournament, an initiative of the ARES Maritime Scholarship Foundation, reflects the organization’s commitment to providing assistance to deserving maritime students who will soon become influential members of the maritime industry. The Foundation, under the leadership of its President, Mr. Mike Marquez, and CEO of Ares Merchant Philippines Inc., Mr. Napoleon Pefianco, recognizes the vital contributions seafarers make to the nation’s economy and the well-being of the Filipino people.
    The Awarding Ceremony celebrated the individuals and organizations who have championed the Foundation’s advocacy, showing their steadfast support through participation and sponsorship.
    3E Sorbito, the former Onboard Training Supervisor of JBLCF-Bacolod, Inc., shared the latest updates on the status of the first batch of ARES scholars. He expressed heartfelt gratitude to all the supporters on behalf of the scholars, emphasizing the profound impact of their generosity.
    As the Annual Golf Tournament continues to receive tremendous support from those who believe in the Foundation’s mission, the ARES Maritime Scholarship Foundation is set to welcome another 40 students into the 2nd batch of its Scholarship and Placement Program this month. These students will benefit from free tuition, miscellaneous fees, and training costs, as well as the opportunity to work on international fleets—thanks to the Foundation’s efforts and the ongoing support of its partners.
    Representing JBLCF-Bacolod at the event were Engr. Sylvino Tupas, Ph.D. (Administrator), 3/E Bernard Sorbito Jr. (Unit Quality Assurance Manager), CM John Erll N.   • JBLCF-Bacolod Celebrates Innovation and Excellence at the 14th Unit Research Colloquium & Sharing of Best Innovative Practices (March 12, 2025)
    It's another year of astounding success, as JBLCF-Bacolod showcased its unwavering commitment to research excellence and innovation through the 14th Unit Research Colloquium, held at the New Audio-Visual Room, on the theme “Driving Research in a Technologically Evolving Landscape: Balancing Innovation, Sustainability, and Internationalization.”
    The colloquium commenced with a series of messages by Dr. Sylvino Tupas (Administrator), Dr. Emeliza Torrento Estimo (Unit Research Coordinator), and Dr. Brian Gil Secondes Sarinas (OIC Director for Research and Development and Community Extension Services), and the inspiring keynote speech by Dr. Virmari Sanagustin Tan, OIC Director of JBLFMU’s International Relations Office, who emphasized the role of digital transformation in maritime education. This was followed by a plenary session graced by Capt. Enrico O. Santos of MARINA, who presented groundbreaking insights through his paper on accrediting electronic training record books (E-TRBs) for maritime training and education.
    Parallel sessions highlighted diverse research topics from paper presentations of students and employees, covering areas such as artificial intelligence in education, mathematics and science efficacy, workplace bullying, students' health and wellness, workplace dynamics, and sustainability in maritime operations, among others. Poster presentations showcasing innovations developed by students were also displayed at the venue.
    The event also featured a sharing of best practices by Mrs. Michelle Villanueva (Head of the Human Resource Department) and Dr. Violeta Neri (Dean of the College of Business and Education). These presentations reinforced JBLFMU’s mission to balance innovation with sustainability while ensuring that stakeholders' expectations are met---one of the best practices of JBLCF-Bacolod, which the Academic Director, Dr. Ma. Elena Ellen Eleperia, has recognized.
    The program concluded with the awarding of certificates to presenters and judges, the winners of the Best Paper Presentation, and the winners of the Poster Presentation and Exhibits.
    The resounding success of the 14th Unit Research Colloquium would not have been possible without the tireless efforts and exemplary leadership of the Unit Research Committee, headed by Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo, Research Coordinator of JBLCF-Bacolod. Under her guidance, the committee meticulously planned and executed every aspect of the event, ensuring a smooth flow and execution of the program. The unwavering support from Dr. Sylvino V. Tupas, Administrator, and the collaboration of Department Heads further underscored the institution's unified commitment to fostering research excellence. Their collective dedication continues to inspire a culture of innovation, resilience, and academic distinction within JBLCF-Bacolod.

  • On March 22, 2025, John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod (JBLCF-B) actively participated in the global celebration of International World Water Day through a simultaneous cleanup drive along Alijis-Murcia Road, spanning from Purok Katilingban to St. Vincent.
    This meaningful initiative was made possible through the collective efforts of JBLCF-Bacolod, under the leadership of CES Office Head, Mr. Ivan June Gayotin, in collaboration with BENRO, BCNHS Senior High Department, Brgy. Alijis LGU, EJ Garcia Elementary School, DSWD LGU Links, 4Ps Parent Leaders, and Beneficiaries.
    The event not only fostered community engagement but also reinforced the importance of water conservation and sustainable management, inspiring participants to take an active role in protecting our natural resources.
    Access to clean water is a fundamental human right. Together, let’s safeguard this invaluable resource for generations to come!
