  • Sustaining Excellence: JBLFMU Strengthens Commitment to Autonomous Status 
    The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) conducted the Hybrid Public Orientation on the Updated Policies and Guidelines on the Grant of Autonomous and Deregulated Status to Private Higher Education Institutions (PHEIs) on August 12–13, 2025 at The Heritage Hotel Manila, Pasay City.
    The two-day event highlighted the prerequisites, evaluation criteria, benefits, responsibilities, and processes of securing and sustaining Autonomous and Deregulated Status. Participating institutions gained valuable insights into quality assurance, government recognition, faculty qualifications, and continuous improvement frameworks essential for sustaining autonomy

    During the orientation, JBLFMU representatives had the opportunity to share the challenges and best practices experienced during the University’s successful application for Autonomous Status. This exchange of experiences aimed to assist other higher education institutions in strengthening their own applications and sustaining their drive for educational quality and excellence.
    Notably, all three campuses of JBLFMU—Bacolod, Arevalo, and Molo—were granted Autonomous Status by CHED for the 2024–2027 cycle, affirming the University’s unwavering commitment to maritime excellence, innovation, and quality assurance.
    ⚓ With this, JBLFMU continues to navigate forward, anchored in its mission to deliver world-class maritime education while sustaining its Autonomous Status through continuous improvement and stakeholder engagement.
  • Employees of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation Bacolod, Inc. participated in the impact assessment workshop conducted by the Extension Managers’ Council of the Negros Island Region at the SUNN Hotel of the State University of Northern Negros in Sagay City, Negros Occidental. With the theme “Empowering SUCs/LUCs/Private HEIs for Transparent and Collaborative Impact Assessment of Extension Programs”, the workshop aimed at forming and training a core group for extension program evaluation in Negros Island Region.
    The Extension Managers’ Council was spearheaded by its Chairman Dr. Roger Ray Manzano who is also the Director of Extension and Community Services of Carlos Hilado Memorial State University.
    JBLCF–Bacolod was represented by Dr. John Erll N. Destacamento, the Dean of the College of Maritime Education, Mr. Ivan Gayotin, the Community Extension Services Officer, Mr. Jun C. Montano, the International Relations Coordinator, and Ms. Geneveve Aguilar, Staff from the Research Office.
    The workshop was an opportunity for JBLCF-Bacolod to enhance its community extension activities.
  • The road to the 2025 In-House Research Capability Enhancement Training Workshop was paved with weeks of preparation, both physically and mentally demanding. Yet the two-day event proved that every effort was worthwhile. The event emphasized that research is not merely an academic requirement but a cornerstone of institutional growth, innovation, and global relevance.
    Day 1 was filled with engaging discussions and knowledge sharing:
    Dr. Emeliza T. Estimo outlined the JBLFMU Revised System Research Agenda and Process Flow in Research.
    Dr. Brian Gil S. Sarinas shared insights on Innovations in Research from the Perspective of JBLFMU’s Top Management.
    Mr. Jun C. Montaño, LPT, MBA highlighted the institution’s Plans to Internationalize Research at JBLFC-Bacolod.
    Methodological discussions were led by Ms. Irene C. Mamon (Qualitative Research) and Mr. Rogie E. Padernal (Quantitative Research).
    3E Paul T. Olimpos presented a Template for Technical Research and Breakthrough Innovations in Marine Engineering at JBLFC.
    Dr. Elisa V. Garcia, RL, MSLS introduced Zotero as a Reference Management Tool in Research Writing.
    The day continued with workshops on writing the Introduction and Methods sections of research, guided by assigned mentors. These sessions underscored the importance of building capacity not only for academic outputs but also for producing impactful research aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
    Day 2 of the workshop showcased the culmination of hard work, collaboration, and mentoring as participants presented the drafts of their research proposals. The oral presentations not only reflected their individual commitment but also embodied the collective vision of JBLFC-Bacolod in building a strong research culture.
    The day began with a recap and proceeded with intensive oral presentations of draft proposals, where participants received valuable feedback from mentors and peers. These sessions emphasized that research is a dynamic process, one that thrives through critique, refinement, and collaboration.
    The awarding of certificates recognized the dedication of the participants, speakers, and mentors who invested time and expertise to strengthen the institution’s research capability. The closing message delivered by C/M John Eril N. Destacamento, PhD, Dean of the College of Maritime Education, reminded everyone of research’s vital role as a driver of innovation, global competitiveness, and transformative education.
    By the end of the two-day training, it became clear that research at JBLFC is not only about producing academic outputs, it is about shaping future maritime leaders, empowering faculty and students, and contributing meaningfully to the advancement of society.

  • Cocolinarya Turismo 2025, a collaboration of Philippine Coconut Authority, COHREP (Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines) and DTI Philippines at SM Megamall, Mega Trade Hall 3 on August 30 – September 2, 2025.
    The Council of Hotel and Restaurant Educators of the Philippines (COHREP) is the leading professional organization of Hospitality Management and Tourism educators in the country. Every year, COHREP hosts the National Skills Competition to showcase the excellence, creativity, and competitiveness of students nationwide through various events that highlight culinary expertise, destination marketing, tourism innovation, and other industry-driven skills.
    This year, our HM students proudly represented the region in the COCOLINARYA Turismo 2025 competitions and achieved remarkable wins!

  • To ensure a smooth transition into their new roles, JBLCF- B conducted a 2-Day Orientation for Newly Hired Employees last August 22-23, 2025 at the Admin Conference Room.
    The activity introduced the employees to the school’s history, mission, vision, values, and policies, while also providing insights into workplace culture, procedures, and expectations. It served as an opportunity for them to meet fellow new hires and engage with department heads, fostering a sense of belonging and teamwork.
    The newly hired employees were also formally welcomed during the Newly- Hired Immersion Day on September 12, 2025, where they experienced a deeper integration into the community.

Lacson Colleges Foundation – Bacolod proudly launched its Employees Sports Fest and Teambuilding 2025 on October 20-21, 2025 with the theme “Building Bonds Through Wellness and Play.” This year’s event aims to strengthen camaraderie, teamwork, and holistic well-being among employees through a series of fun, engaging, and meaningful activities.
    Four color teams competed in various sports and teambuilding games designed to promote health, unity, and sportsmanship. Beyond the spirit of competition, the event emphasizes cooperation, respect, and the joy of working together toward a common goal.

  • October 26,2025, around 500 Grade 12 students from across the Province of Negros Occidental gathered at John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (Bacolod), Inc. (JBLCF–B) for the first-ever NaMMAT Test Day, held in two batches—morning and afternoon.
    The NaMMAT, conducted by the Center for Educational Measurement, Inc. (CEM), is a CHED-required aptitude test for aspiring students who wish to pursue BS Marine Transportation (BSMT) or BS Marine Engineering (BSMarE). It evaluates their readiness and potential for maritime studies—ensuring that future seafarers meet the highest standards of the global maritime industry.
    Before and after the test, examinees toured JBLCF–Bacolod’s state-of-the-art simulators, laboratories, and classrooms, offering them a firsthand glimpse of life as a true Maritime Vanguard. To ensure a smooth experience, the school provided free snacks and bus rides from Bongbong’s to the campus, and even accommodated walk-in examinees throughout the day.
    This day marks a new chapter in the journey of hundreds of young dreamers—future mariners who now take their first steps toward a life of purpose, passion, and adventure at sea.
