John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation–Bacolod (JBLCF-B) proudly welcomed Leonis Navigation Co., Inc., in partnership with World Marine Co., Ltd., for an official campus visit held on July 17 at the AVR.

The distinguished delegation included Capt. Ronnie V. Tagat, President of Leonis Navigation Co., Inc., Capt. Godfrey E. Ejercito, Director/General Manager of Leonis Navigation Co., Inc., Capt. John Carlo A. Sumido, Crewing Officer of Leonis Navigation Co., Inc., Ms. Rie Kondo, Group Leader of World Marine Co., Ltd., and Mr. Ryunosuke Yoshida, Crewing Officer of World Marine Co., Ltd.

Present to welcome the distinguished delegation were members of the School Administration, the Quality Assurance Office, the Dean of the College of Maritime Education (CME), Department Heads, Program Heads, faculty members, and selected students.

The visit strengthens JBLCF-B's partnership with both companies, reaffirming its role as the maritime vanguard in shaping world-class Filipino seafarers and marking another milestone in the institution's continuing collaboration in the global maritime industry.

Join us as we trace the journeys of TOMSP alumni and discover how the program continues to shape young maritime leaders long after the awards.

For Danny Jumayao, TOMSP began as a dream long before the program returned. Years before its revival, his mentor would tell stories about past TOMSP awardees while passing the venues where the ceremonies were once held. One question stayed with him: "Could I one day be there too?" When TOMSP made its comeback in 2025, Danny saw it as his opportunity to find the answer. He pursued it with faith, hard work, and purpose, hoping not only to earn recognition but to become proof that students facing financial, personal, or academic struggles can also rise above their circumstances.

What stayed with Danny after TOMSP was not the title, but everything that came after it. The opportunities, the trust people placed in him, and the chance to give back reminded him that every blessing carries a responsibility. Today, he chooses to pay forward the guidance he once received by mentoring younger cadets and encouraging them to believe that their own opportunities will come in time.

For Danny, being outstanding is never about standing above everyone else. It is about helping others rise with you. The greatest measure of success is not how brightly you shine, but how many others find the courage to shine because you believed in them first.

About 400 parents and guardians of incoming freshmen under the College of Maritime Education (CME) attended the Parents' Orientation for Academic Year 2026–2027, where they received essential information on academic programs, student services, and school policies at the institution's Covered Court on July 18.

Engr. Sylvino V. Tupas, PhD, JBLCF-B Administrator, officially opened the orientation by welcoming the parents and guardians and outlining the program, highlighting the institution's unwavering commitment to providing quality education.

"As stated in our school's mission, John B. values quality education," Engr. Tupas affirmed.

Cadetship placement and career opportunities were discussed by 3/E Bernard M. Sorbito Jr., Officer-in-Charge and Quality Assurance Manager, emphasizing the opportunities available for students to support their maritime careers.

"The Future is Bright for a True-Blooded Lacsonian," 3/E Sorbito added.

Moreover, students will be allowed to wear their Type A school uniform starting Monday, July 20, according to Mr. Cheryl E. Pagunsan, Student Activity Coordinator.

Furthermore, an open forum led by Ma'am Grace D. Ibardolaza addressed parents' concerns and inquiries.

The orientation aims to address students' needs and provide significant information to help parents understand available resources and access support for their children as they start their journey in the maritime industry.

Five higher education institutions (HEIs) from across Southeast Asia came together for the International Youth Talk on July 17, 2026, hosted by Go Study Global Education – China. Centered on the theme of learning across borders, the virtual event fostered intercultural dialogue, knowledge sharing, and academic collaboration among students from the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, and Indonesia. Participating institutions included John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation – Bacolod (Philippines), Van Lang University (Vietnam), Politeknik Sultan Mizan Zainal Abidin (Malaysia), Universitas Ma Chung (Indonesia), and Politeknik Negeri Malang (Indonesia).

Representing JBLCF–Bacolod were Mdpn. John Daryl Gabayeron, Mdpwn. Angela Joy Tupas, and Mdpn. Earl Luiz Militar, who delivered a presentation entitled “Learning Skills Across Borders for Maritime Students.” Their presentation highlighted the importance of developing global competencies, cross-cultural communication, and lifelong learning to prepare future maritime professionals for the demands of the international shipping industry.

Following their presentation, the student speakers actively participated in the question-and-answer session, engaging in meaningful discussions and exchanging perspectives with participants from the different ASEAN countries.

The International Youth Talk served as a valuable platform for JBLCF–Bacolod students to broaden their global perspectives, strengthen intercultural understanding, and learn from the diverse experiences and best practices shared by fellow student leaders across the ASEAN region. The event further reinforced the institution's commitment to internationalization and to developing globally competitive graduates.

Grade 12 Arafura of the Basic Education Department (BED) at John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation kicks off the Film Festival 2026, bringing student-made cinema to the forefront through productions shaped by imagination, collaboration, and creative vision.

Behind every frame is a story of students who stepped beyond the classroom to become writers, directors, actors, editors, cinematographers, and storytellers. Their films showcase not only their technical skills but also their ability to transform ideas and experiences into compelling narratives.

Adding another creative dimension to the festival, the students have produced promotional posters for their respective films—visual works designed to capture attention while giving audiences a first look at the stories waiting behind the screen.

A proud and meaningful milestone for another batch of SMAW NC I and SMAW NC II graduates!

On August 12, 2026, the TVET Department of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation–Bacolod proudly held its Graduation Exercises for three (3) batches of SMAW NC II graduates and one (1) batch of SMAW NC I graduates under the CY 2025 TESDA Scholarship Allocations for beneficiaries from outside Bacolod City.

This achievement was made possible through the support of the TESDA Negros Occidental Provincial Office, under the leadership of TESDA NIR Regional Director Niña Connie G. Dodd, and the Third District Representative, Hon. Javier Miguel “Javi” Benitez.

Our graduates were inspired by the messages of Engr. Sylvino V. Tupas, Ph.D., School Administrator; Engr. Alan M. Nuega, President of Phil-Apex Placement Agency, Inc.; Mr. Serafin Plotria, representative of Hon. Javi Benitez; Ms. Josie V. Aurelio, TESDA TESD Specialist II representing RD Niña Connie G. Dodd; and Ms. Maria Vida V. Manliclic, PESO Personnel representing the Municipality of Binalbagan Mayor Immanuel I. Aranda.

The celebration became even more meaningful through the inspiring success stories of our graduates. Arvin Vasquez, a Batch 1 SMAW NC II graduate, is now working in Japan as a shipyard welder through Phil-Apex Placement Agency, Inc. Meanwhile, Joshua Cabatu-an, who had to put his BS Marine Engineering studies at JBLCF-Bacolod on hold due to financial challenges, pursued SMAW NC I and NC II training and is now preparing for his deployment to Japan as a shipyard welder in December 2026. Their journeys are a testament to how skills, determination, and opportunity can transform lives and open doors to a brighter future.

At approximately 10:40 AM, a fire incident was reported at ECC Villas in Brgy. Alijis, involving a residential house that was also being used for commercial purposes. Responding units immediately proceeded to the area to assist with the emergency.

Our dedicated 𝙅𝘽𝙇𝘾𝙁-𝘽𝙖𝙘𝙤𝙡𝙤𝙙 𝙍𝙚𝙙 𝘾𝙧𝙤𝙨𝙨 𝙔𝙤𝙪𝙩𝙝 (𝙍𝘾𝙔) 𝙫𝙤𝙡𝙪𝙣𝙩𝙚𝙚𝙧𝙨 were also on-site and provided assistance to the 𝘽𝙪𝙧𝙚𝙖𝙪 𝙤𝙛 𝙁𝙞𝙧𝙚 𝙋𝙧𝙤𝙩𝙚𝙘𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 (𝘽𝙁𝙋) during the response.

John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation (Bacolod) is moving to strengthen its sustainability efforts by proposing the establishment of a JBLCFB Slow Food Community, following a preliminary meeting with Slow Food Negros yesterday, August 17, in the institution’s conference room.

Spearheaded by Angela Joy J. Tupas, a BSHM 4 Bravo student and fellow BS Hospitality Management students, the meeting brought together the school administrator, department heads, and Ms. Reena Gamboa, spokesperson for Slow Food Negros and a member of Slow Food International.

The proposed initiative promotes local food heritage, sustainable food practices, responsible consumption, and community engagement through the Slow Food Movement’s “Good, Clean, and Fair” principles.

It also aims to support local farmers, fisherfolk, food producers, and communities, aligning with SDGs 2, 4, and 12 on Zero Hunger, Quality Education, and Responsible Consumption and Production.

Through the initiative, JBLCF-B seeks to turn sustainability into meaningful action within and beyond the campus.

Another proud moment for the Maritime Vanguard!

Mdpn. John Daryl G. Gabayeron and Mdpn. Earl Luiz B. Militar, the official nominees of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation–Bacolod, Inc., have successfully advanced to the Top 20 National Finalists of the Ten Outstanding Maritime Students of the Philippines (TOMSP) 2026.

TOMSP is a national search, formation, and awards program that recognizes maritime students who demonstrate holistic excellence beyond academics. Making it to the Top 20 is already a significant achievement, with finalists from maritime institutions across the country evaluated in academic and professional excellence, responsible leadership, social responsibility, and their proposed initiatives for the maritime community.

Representing the Bachelor of Science in Marine Transportation, Mdpn. Gabayeron brings a journey marked by resilience, leadership, communication, creativity, and service. Currently the Supreme Student Government Vice President, he has represented the school in national and international engagements. His proposed Project HANDUM seeks to help children discover and pursue their dreams through mentorship, career exposure, and meaningful support.

Representing the Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering, Mdpn. Militar is Rank 1 among the current third-year BSMarE students, Editor-in-Chief of The Carrier, a Unit Model Cadet, and a company-sponsored scholar. His journey—from selling biko during his senior high school years to help sustain his education to becoming a national finalist—speaks of perseverance and determination. Through Project DAKOP, he hopes to use maritime knowledge and practical technology to support local fisherfolk communities.

Having both JBLCF-Bacolod nominees advance to the national Top 20 adds another proud chapter to the institution’s continuing TOMSP journey. More than producing students who excel in the classroom, JBLCF-Bacolod remains committed to developing future maritime professionals with competence, character, leadership, and a genuine sense of responsibility toward others.

As the Maritime Vanguard, the school takes pride in seeing another generation step onto the national stage, carrying not only their individual achievements but also the values and formation of the institution they represent.

Three aspiring educators from John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation–Bacolod proudly represented the institution at the 2nd Negros Island and Siquijor Region Student Teachers Summit and CBAR Congress held on August 22, 2026, at the Silliman University Gymnasium in Dumaguete City.

Our Bachelor of Technology and Livelihood Education (BTLEd) students Jenerose Gundao, Mary Pras, and Terese Alib took part in this meaningful gathering of student teachers, gaining valuable insights, connecting with fellow future educators, and embracing opportunities for professional and personal growth.

Beyond the classroom, experiences like this help shape them into more confident, capable, and purpose-driven educators,ready to inspire and make a difference in the lives of their future learners.

Lacson Colleges Foundation–Bacolod (JBLCF–Bacolod) forged a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with Doña Montserrat Lopez Memorial High School (DMLMHS) in Silay City, strengthening both institutions' commitment to collaborative initiatives that promote educational development and meaningful engagement. JBLCF–Bacolod was represented by Dr. Sylvino V. Tupas, Administrator, while Dr. Warlito Rosareal, Principal IV, represented DMLMHS during the signing ceremony.

The MOU establishes a framework for collaboration in several areas, including student immersion, seminars and training programs for teachers and students, research, and community extension activities. Through these initiatives, the partnership seeks to provide students with valuable learning experiences, enhance the professional capabilities of teachers and personnel, encourage collaborative research, and contribute to community development through relevant extension programs.

Also present during the event were Mr. Jun Montano, International Relations Coordinator; C/E Rolan Corugda; and Mr. Robert Jan Ruiz, Marketing Officer, representing JBLCF–Bacolod, together with Dr. Role C. Andrada, Principal II, and the Department Heads of DMLMHS. The MOU signing marks another significant step in strengthening institutional linkages and creating opportunities for shared learning, innovation, and community engagement between JBLCF–Bacolod and DMLMHS.
