• The JBLFMU Taekwondo Team dominated the ILOPRISAA 2025 Taekwondo Competition, emerging as the Over-All Champion in the Tertiary Men’s Division.
    The competition, held at Vista Mall, Oton, Iloilo, showcased top athletes in both Kyorugi and Poomsae categories.

    Led by head coach Dr. Camila Jill R. Belandres, the JBLFMU Tertiary Men’s team displayed exceptional skill and determination throughout the tournament.
    The JBLFMU Taekwondo Team was officially awarded the championship title today, February 1, 2025.

  • The 77th Founding Anniversary of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) officialy started with an opening program at the JBLFMU-Arevalo gymnasium on February 3.

    Mr. Robert O. Parcia, JBLFMU-Arevalo Administrator, gave the opening remarks, welcoming everyone to the event.

    Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU, and Dr. Mary Lou L. Arcelos, Chairman of the Board of Trustees, shared messages that highlighted the university’s achievements and continued growth.

    “From a small maritime school, we have grown into a leading institution known for our excellence in maritime education and training,” said Dr. Sebastian, who also officially opened the celebration.

    The program included the Oath of Sportsmanship led by Mdpn. Hanz Iñigo Parreño, Most Outstanding Swimmer in the National PRISAA, and a Silent Drill Exhibition by the Arevalo NROTC.

    The presentation of System Model Cadet Contestants, Mr. & Ms. JBLFMU candidates followed, along with a performance by Tribu Pan-ay, 1st Runner-up in the 2025 Dinagyang Tribe Competition.

    The event concluded with a Unity Dance, bringing the JBLFMU community together to start the week-long celebration.

Gancia joined international scholars and educators at the 44th Thailand TESOL International Conference, where she presented her research under the theme “Exploring New Frontiers of ELT for a Better Tomorrow: Innovative Curriculum, Pedagogy, and Assessment.” The conference was held on January 24-25, 2025, in Bangkok, Thailand.

    The conference included panel discussions and research presentations that showcased the latest trends and best practices in English language teaching.

    Dr. Gancia emphasized that her research was dedicated to her students and colleagues, recognizing their belief in the power of research to transform teaching and learning.

    The 44th Thailand TESOL International Conference gathered English language teaching professionals, featured distinguished speakers, and offered insights into innovative curriculum, research, and assessment practices.

  • The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) Dolphins swim team delivered a commanding performance at the Iloilo Sports Complex during the ISSC Integrated Meet, held February 9-10. Competing under the theme "Atletang Palaban: Nangingibabaw Sa Diwa ng Makabansang Paligsahan," the team's skill and dedication resulted in a significant medal count, underscoring their competitive strength within the region.

    • Hanz Inigo Parreño (Grade 12) is a standout performer who captured five gold medals in the 400m Freestyle, 1500m Freestyle, 200m Freestyle, 800m Freestyle, and 4x100m Freestyle Relay, plus a silver in the 200m Individual Medley!
    • Allysandra Monique Sorbito (Grade 11) also shone brightly, earning four gold
    • medals in the 200m Backstroke, 400m Individual Medley, 4x100m Freestyle Relay, and 4x100m Mixed Freestyle Relay! 
    • William Morante (Grade 12) contributed to the team's success with a gold medal in the 4x100m Freestyle Relay! 
    • Jay Sobremisana (Grade 12) powered his way to a gold medal in the 4x50m Freestyle Relay! 
    The JBFLMU Dolphins' achievements are a testament to the athletes' rigorous training under the guidance of their coaching staff, comprised of Mark Catalan, Brian Caluba, and Ronald Sta. Ana. The university also acknowledges the valuable support provided by chaperone April Joy Palma and sports coordinator Ive D. Sta. Ana.

  • The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University in Molo inaugurated its new Diagnostic Center on February 4, 2025, marking a significant advancement in its commitment to comprehensive healthcare. This achievement was made possible through the efforts of Engr. Roberto Neal Sobrejuanite, Administrator of JBLFMU-Molo.

    The ceremony was attended by the JBLF Board of Trustees, led by Chairperson Dr. Mary Lou Lacson-Arcelo, the Executive Council, headed by the CEO Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, faculty, staff, students, and community members.

    The center is equipped with advanced equipment and staffed by qualified professionals, offering a range of diagnostic services. Initially, the center will offer various services, with plans to soon cater to ECG, Ultrasound, and other diagnostic procedures. This will improve access to quality healthcare and contribute to early disease detection.

    The JBLFMU-Molo Diagnostic Center will be a vital community resource, providing essential healthcare and improving public health in the province.
  • JBLFMU-Molo employees spent a meaningful day at Puerto Del Mar, in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras on February 12, 2025, immersing themselves in environmental conservation. 26 employees and 5 other volunteers participated in mangrove bagging and planting, a coastal cleanup, and an environmental tour.


    This activity, organized by the JBLFMU-Molo CES Office, aimed to promote environmental awareness and responsibility.

  • Strengthening its commitment to environmental protection and sustainability, JBLFMU-Molo joins the call for environmental action at the 5th Philippine Environment Summit, held on February 19-21, 2025, at the Grand Xing Imperial Hotel, Iloilo City.

    With the theme "Ako ang Bukas: A Quantum Leap to Climate Neutrality," the 3-day summit featured plenary sessions, breakout sessions, and an exhibit area showcasing programs and projects that contribute to social and economic advancement while still protecting and preserving the environment.
    Organized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) and Green Convergence, the event brought together environmental advocates, government officials, and representatives of private sectors to share knowledge and practices in environmental protection.

  • JBLFMU Taekwondo team showcased outstanding performance at the Western Visayas Private School Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) meet held at SM City Roxas, Roxas City, Capiz, Febuary 23.

    The team, composed of Jaren Juridico and Karl De La Cruz from JBLFMU-Arevalo, and Andrue Leonor from JBLFMU-Molo excelled and brought home 3 Gold medals as they outshone all other conterders from various schools across Western Visayas.

    Additionally, with the unwavering support of the JBLFMU community and under the guidance of Dr. Camilla Jill Belandres and Coach/Trainer Mark V Pinggol, the team has secured a spot and advanced to the National PRISAA 2025.

  • The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo (JBLFMU-M) billiards team delivered an outstanding performance at the 2025 Western Visayas Private Schools Athletic Association (WVPRISAA) Meet, held on February 22-23.

    The team consisting of Gian Carlo Car from Secondary Boys division and Chellmareyn Suganog from Secondary Girls division both claimed a silver medal in their respective events.

    In the Tertiary Men’s division, Mdpn. Wolverine John Tamisen secured a gold medal in the 9-ball event, establishing the team’s dominance and has the chance to advance in the National PRISAA 2025.

  • The John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo Dolphins displayed an exemplary performance at the Western Visayas Regional Athletic Association (WVRAA) 2025 held at Binirayan Swimming Pool Complex San Jose, Antique, March 3-6.

    JBLFMU-Molo students, Hans Iñigo Parreno of grade-12 Amsterdam, and Alyssandra Monique B. Sorbito of Grade 11- Markab led their way to victory, where Parreno bagged 3 silver and 4 gold medals, while Sorbito collected 3 silver and 1 bronze medal.

    With the guidance of coach Mark Catalan, Brian Caluba, and Ronald Sta. Ana, and being coordinated by Ma'am Ive Sta. Ana and Ma'am April Joy Palma, the team, showcased outstanding performances towards different events, securing awards throughout the competition.

    The event ended in favor of the team, claiming the chance to advance to the 65th Palarong Pambansa 2025 that will be held at Laoag City, Ilocos Norte, from May 24 to June 2.

  • Delegates across the Philippines elected Mdpwn. Alexandra May Tarroja as Visayas Representative and Mdpn. Jestoni Sararaña as the National Public Relations Officer in the 1st National Campus Journalists Coalition 2025.

    The election took place during the 3rd National Campus Journalism Convention, organized by TRAC (Transforming Advocates and Champions) Philippines, from March 9 to 11 at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel.

    Organizers announced that the pioneer batch of officers will represent campus journalists nationwide and will take part in initiatives, starting their term in 2025 and serving until 2026.

    The convention highlighted the significant role of campus journalists' voices in upholding human rights in the democratic world and advocating for transparency, fairness, and social responsibility.

    Nine delegates from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (Molo) joined the 3rd CJC edition organized by Transforming Advocates and Champions, Inc. (TRAC) at the Manila Grand Opera Hotel, March 9-11.

    With the theme, “Empowering Journalists’ Voices: Upholding Human Rights in a Democratic Society,” the convention and competition aimed to allow student-journalists to experience comprehensive development training, with a strong focus on transformational and purpose-driven leadership.

  • A seminar-workshop titled "Strengthening Family Relationships" was successfully conducted by the Community Extension Service (CES) of JBLFMU-Molo on March 18, 2025. The event, held at the JBLFMU-Molo CSM Function Hall, brought together 55 parents of Educational Assistance Program student recipients from Brgy. Sooc, Arevalo, Iloilo City, and Brgy. Trapiche, Oton, Iloilo. The seminar aimed to promote open and effective communication within households, with a theme of "Bridging the Gap: Effective Communication for Stronger Family Relations."

    Resource speakers Mr. Donie Alvon Mañosa, Guidance Counselor of Oton National High School, and Mr. Gaudioso Yudelmo, a retired Executive Master Sergeant of the PNP, emphasized the importance of effective communication in fostering stronger family relationships. They highlighted the roles of parents and children in maintaining a harmonious home environment. Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite, Administrator of JBLFMU-Molo, and Mrs. Araceli Tondo, Chairperson of the Social Work Department at Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus, also shared their insights and experiences on the significant role of parents in the lives of their children.

    The seminar-workshop was a collaborative effort between JBLFMU-Molo, the Educational Research and Development Assistance (ERDA) Foundation, and the Social Work student interns of Colegio del Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. The event was a meaningful and impactful initiative aimed at strengthening family bonds and promoting open and effective communication within households. By empowering parents with the knowledge and skills to communicate effectively, the seminar aimed to create a positive impact on family relationships and contribute to a more harmonious community.

    JBLFMU's latest national ranking climbed 4 spots from its previous position at 59 and retained the same position as 3rd place out of 9 universities in Iloilo as last year.

    Moreover, JBLFMU contributed significantly to this ranking with 75 scientific papers published and 93 citations received.

    Currently a BSCSM 4-A student, Fatima serves as the Editor-in-Chief of The Seagull, the official student publication of JBLFMU-Molo. Over the past two years as Editor-in-Chief, she has exemplified exceptional leadership, creativity, and unwavering dedication. Under her stewardship, The Seagull has blossomed into a vibrant platform where students are encouraged to articulate their thoughts and share their stories, fostering an environment rich in critical thinking, creativity, media literacy, and global citizenship.

    Her adept ability to lead a diverse team, combined with her astute editorial insight, has transformed the publication into a source of inspiration and empowerment. During her tenure, The Seagull achieved notable acclaim, securing fifth place in the Newsletter category and third place in the Departmental Paper category at the College Press Awards (COPRE) 2024, organized by the Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Region VI. Furthermore, her team's innovative Media and Information Literacy pitch garnered recognition from UNESCO during its Youth Hackathon 2024. As the Literary Editor of The Seagull, she also spearheaded the Mono no aware Literary Folio, which won fourth place in COPRE 2022, marking the first award ever achieved by JBLFMU-Molo's Literary Folio. Fatima's prowess extends to national accolades, having won second place in Feature Writing and third place in Sports Writing at the 2024 Word Cup National Campus Journalism Workshop in Tagaytay City.

    In her academic pursuits, Ms. Pumaren consistently achieves outstanding results, a testament to her unwavering commitment to excellence and her fervor for learning. She actively participates in joint advanced English classes with Osaka Seikei University in Japan during the first semester of the academic year 2024-2025, reflecting her dedication to broadening her horizons and embracing diverse perspectives in the pursuit of global education and citizenship.

    Beyond her editorial and academic successes, Fatima is deeply devoted to her community and her faith. She engages in a myriad of outreach programs and initiatives designed to uplift and empower those around her.   • With the spirit of nationalism and patriotism in the air, over 500 students from the Molo and Arevalo campuses of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University gathered today at the Arevalo campus for the West Philippine Sea (WPS) Symposium, a collaborative effort led by the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Information Agency (PIA), and the National Youth Commission (NYC).

    The event reinforces the nationwide campaign to raise awareness on the Philippines’ sovereign rights in the West Philippine Sea, aiming to empower Ilonggo youth to become advocates of nationalism and defenders of the country’s maritime interests.

    Leading the discussions is Commodore Jay Tarriela, PCG spokesperson for the West Philippine Sea, who tackled the pressing topic of “Philippines’ Sovereign Rights and Maritime Security in the West Philippine Sea,” joining him are PIA Director General Katherine Chloe S. De Castro and NYC Commissioner-at-Large Asec. Karl Legazpi, both of whom emphasized the critical role of the youth in safeguarding national interests.

    The symposium also highlighted how the WPS issue directly impacts the Western Visayas region, particularly in terms of food security and economic stability—areas closely linked to the maritime domain and the region's development.

    Through this event, students were empowered not only as future maritime professionals but also as advocates of the nation’s rights over its rich and strategic maritime territory.
