The Basic Education Department of John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod (JBLCF-Bacolod) is one of the eight private schools in the country that qualified for the grant from Rethinking Education, Championing and Accelerating School Transformation (RECAST), a collaboration project between Private Education Assistance Committee (PEAC) and Inteligente Publishing. RECAST is a program of support for private schools making the transition to online learning. In partnership with Inteligente Publishing, RECAST provides financial grant amounting to Php150,000/grantee school to support the implementation of the approved plan.

In line with the innovative delivery of online learning, JBLCF-Bacolod proposed this project: CREATION OF A MULTIMEDIA STUDIO FOR THE PRODUCTION OF PRE-BACCALAUREATE MARITIME SPECIALIZATION DIGITAL INSTRUCTIONAL MATERIALS. The project proposal was initiated by the ever engaged administrator of JBLCF-Bacolod, Engr. Roberto Neal S. Sobrejuanite. Working with him are the faculty subject experts of the Basic Education Department headed by their principal, Dr. Ma. Eva M. Hilay, and the selected administrative staff whose participation to the development and implementation of the project was identified. The proposed plan was favorably reviewed, approved and formally  awarded on November 20, 2020 during the anniversary celebration of Inteligente Publishing, Inc. via Facebook Live.

The approved project aims to enhance the technological competence of the teachers in creating digital instructional materials, to augment the delivery of classroom instructions, and to increase the adequacy of digital learning materials (DLMs) per subject. Undeniably, under the “new normal” system of education, teachers will have great use of a multimedia studio where they can produce instructional videos. Access of students to a library of digital learning materials will address essential learning competencies required by the subject. As espoused by Nicholas (2008) in her study entitled “Preferred Learning Methods of the Millennial Generation,” millennials will most likely learn through multimedia. They work at their best when materials are available from online sources and when communication happens with the intervention of technology. They belong to an era of instant access and web-based connections.

Teachers as agents of learning must be equipped with the necessary skills to transfer to the learners the expected competencies, and for which the creation of a functional multi-media studio can be helpful. Through this workroom the teachers will have a better place to create and prepare their audio-visual teaching aids which will redound to the availability of digital instructional materials for utilization.  Hence, the project can result into improved teaching and learning process meant for an improved learning attitude and academic performance of the students especially in online learning modality.
