DOST-PCIEERD, DOST Region 6 lead Marine Sewage Treatment Plant Project Visit


The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) headquarters from Manila, along with DOST Region 6, conducted a project visit to the Marine Sewage Treatment Plant, a research funded by DOST-PCIEERD in collaboration with JBLFMU-Molo, April 17, 2024.

Among the notable attendees were Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, the esteemed executive director of DOST-PCIEERD, Mr. Ruel A. Pili, DOST-PCIEERD Consortia Project Manager, and Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, DOST VI Regional Director, alongside the dedicated team members from DOST-PCIEERD and DOST Region VI.

The distinguished presence of Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU, and Mr. Robert O. Parcia, MMM, added eminence to the occasion as they shared their insights and warm welcomes.


Grounded in the regulatory frameworks of MARPOL (Marine Pollution) 73/78 Annex VI Regulation and RA 9275 (Clean Water Act), this study holds profound implications for maritime industries, aiming to assess the viability and efficacy of implementing Marine Sewage Treatment Plants (MSTPs) aboard domestic ships, underscoring a commitment to fostering cleaner, more sustainable maritime practices in alignment with global environmental standards.


Moreover, the project inventors included Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, Engr. Allan Roberto, C/E Agustin Bedia, Ph.D., Engr. Nerios S. Cortejo, Engr. Ernie Jay A. Teves, and Dr. Victor Ruperto B. Jaleco.
