• From August 13 to 16, 2024, the JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES), in partnership with ERDA Foundation Inc. and PCGA 601.13 Division, distributed school supplies to over 400 student beneficiaries across several barangays in Guimaras for the School Year 2024–2025. The initiative reached Barangays Poblacion, Igang, Magamay, Sto. Domingo, Pandaraonan, and Dolores in Nueva Valencia, as well as Brgy. Ravina in Sibunag.

    Through the provision of essential learning materials, JBLFMU aims to empower students, support their educational journeys, and foster equitable access to quality education. This effort reflects the University’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 4, promoting inclusive and equitable quality education and lifelong learning opportunities. Through community partnerships and targeted initiatives, JBLFMU continues to strengthen educational support and development for its partner communities.


  • On September 21, 2024, JBLFMU, in collaboration with the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, and partners including the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary (PCGA), GENRO, Reef Wanderers, Alon Purified Drinking Water, and local community members, actively participated in International Clean-Up Day. Spearheaded by Mayor Atty. Paul Vincent De la Cruz, the event brought together 110 participants committed to environmental stewardship.

    Teams were divided for maximum impact: one group, led by JBLFMU personnel Ms. Glaiza Tabulinar and Ms. Aileen Juntado, conducted a coastal clean-up, while another, guided by Dive Instructor Julius Tagomata, Mayor De la Cruz, CES Coordinator Mhar Jaleco, and partner organizations, performed an underwater clean-up near Puyo Wharf.

    This initiative exemplifies JBLFMU’s dedication to Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 14, promoting cleaner oceans, healthier communities, and lasting environmental awareness.

  • On October 4, 2024, JBLFMU CES organized an outreach program at Sto. Domingo Day Care Center, reinforcing its commitment to the JBLFMU Educational Assistance Program. The initiative was made possible through the Bulig Lacsonian: A Donation Drive Activity, with generous support from employees of JBLF Inc., JBLFMU Shared Services, the Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary, and JBLF ILA.

    Collected materials included books, educational toys, art supplies, bond papers, bags, notebooks, and pencils, all aimed at enhancing the quality of education for the young learners at the center. JBLFMU has maintained a partnership with Sto. Domingo Day Care Center since 2008, supporting 41 children aged 0–4 years.

    This initiative highlights JBLFMU’s dedication to Sustainable Development Goal 4, promoting inclusive and equitable quality education while laying a strong foundation for lifelong learning among early learners.

  • On October 10, 2024, the Local Government Unit of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, in partnership with JBLFMU, conducted a key meeting to review and update the management plan of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS). Presided over by Mayor Atty. Paul Vincent Dela Cruz, the session was attended by the Protected Area Management Board (PAMB), the Technical Working Group, and JBLFMU CES officers.

    The CES Coordinator presented findings from recent socio-economic studies on fisherfolk and results from a biophysical assessment, while Ms. Rose Jane Sablon (GENRO) facilitated a Management Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) assessment. Insights from these studies will guide the five-year management plan update. Plans to issue an Executive Order to establish a renewed Management Board and subcommittees were also discussed.

    This collaborative effort advances SDG 14, promoting sustainable marine resource management and coastal conservation.

  • On October 30, 2024, the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, in partnership with JBLFMU, launched the first phase of reviewing and updating the Management Plan of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary (IBMS). The activity brought together a technical working group comprising representatives from DENR-PENRO Guimaras, GENRO, MLGU Nueva Valencia, JBLFMU, BFAR, and the local tourism sector, ensuring a comprehensive and productive discussion.

    During the session, participants conducted a SWOT analysis and updated the sanctuary’s vision, mission, management goals, and objectives to strengthen its governance and sustainability strategies. Ms. Rachel Ann Dequilla from DENR-PENRO Guimaras served as facilitator and consultant, guiding the group in collaborative planning.

    This initiative supports Sustainable Development Goal 14, promoting effective management and conservation of marine ecosystems for long-term ecological and community benefits.

  • On November 9, 2024, the Philippine Society of Customs Administration Students – Molo Chapter, together with Bachelor of Science in Customs Administration students, faculty, alumni, and employees, participated in a mangrove planting activity at Puerto Del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. This initiative supports JBLFMU’s ongoing commitment to environmental protection and coastal ecosystem preservation.

    Volunteers actively engaged in bagging and planting mangroves, contributing to shoreline stabilization, habitat restoration, and the promotion of marine biodiversity. The collaborative effort also strengthened awareness of sustainable environmental practices among students and the wider JBLFMU community.

    By fostering hands-on conservation initiatives, this activity aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 14, demonstrating JBLFMU’s dedication to nurturing environmentally responsible leaders and ensuring healthier, resilient coastal ecosystems for future generations.

  • JBLFMU, in partnership with ERDA Foundation, Inc., continues to support student beneficiaries through its Educational Assistance Program in the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The initiative provides uniform allowances and miscellaneous fees to ensure that elementary and high school students from JBLFMU partner communities can pursue their education with confidence and pride on November 27, 2024.

    By addressing essential educational needs, the program empowers students to stay in school, focus on learning, and achieve academic success. This initiative reflects JBLFMU’s dedication to fostering inclusive and equitable education, reinforcing its role in community development.

    Through this sustained support, JBLFMU advances Sustainable Development Goal 4, ensuring quality education for all and helping build a strong foundation for lifelong learning among the youth of Nueva Valencia.

  • In the third phase of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary workshop, the Technical Working Team, composed of representatives from JBLFMU, the Local Government Unit of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, and DENR-PENRO Guimaras, conducted a comprehensive review and update of the sanctuary’s management plan on December 4-5, 2024.

    This collaborative initiative seeks to align management strategies with current best practices, address emerging challenges, and incorporate feedback from key stakeholders. By evaluating ecological, socio-economic, and governance aspects, the team aims to enhance the sanctuary’s sustainability and resilience while ensuring balanced utilization of marine resources.

    Through this effort, JBLFMU and its partners demonstrate a continued commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 14, fostering effective marine conservation, sustainable coastal resource management, and stronger community engagement in protecting the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary.

  • On December 8, 2024, the JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES) hosted a heartwarming community team-building activity that strengthened bonds and celebrated shared experiences. Beneficiaries of the Educational Assistance Program shared personal stories highlighting the program’s positive impact, inspiring hope and motivation for a brighter future.

    The event culminated in a festive Christmas celebration, spreading joy and warmth among community members through smiles, gifts, and meaningful moments. JBLFMU CES extends sincere gratitude to the University for providing food, and to employees of JBLF Inc. and Shared Services for their generous gift contributions.

  • On December 13, 2024, JBLFMU brought festive cheer to its seven partner communities in Guimaras through its annual outreach activity, themed “Discover the Magic of Christmas at JBLFMU.” The event welcomed 200 community members at Villa Corazon, Puerto Del Mar, Nueva Valencia, and featured fun activities, games, and camaraderie that celebrated the spirit of Christmas.

    A highlight of the day was the recognition of community partners, with certificates and tokens of appreciation acknowledging their invaluable contributions. Participants also received thoughtful gifts and enjoyed a hearty lunch, fostering gratitude and a sense of togetherness.

    This tradition reflects JBLFMU’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goal 11, strengthening community bonds, promoting inclusivity, and spreading joy, truly embodying the magic and generosity of the holiday season.

  • Starting the year with purpose, JBLFMU CES, supported by JBLFMU Molo CESS and PCGA, organized its first community outreach program of 2025—a Community Meeting and Team Building Activity—on January 4 at JBLCF PDM. The event brought together 62 CoMSCA members from Barangay Poblacion, fostering collaboration, camaraderie, and community engagement.

    Participants also received IEC materials on Empowering Lives through Financial Literacy, equipping them with knowledge and practical skills to make informed financial decisions and promoting sustainable growth within the community.

    This initiative highlights JBLFMU’s dedication to Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 8, combining education, capacity-building, and community cohesion to empower individuals, strengthen partnerships, and create lasting, positive impacts. The event sets the tone for more meaningful, community-driven programs throughout the year.

  • On January 17, 2025, the Senior High School Department of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University – Arevalo (JBLFMU-A) conducted Project Hugpong in Puerto Del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, taking bold steps toward holistic education.

    The initiative leveraged diverse skills across subject competencies through authentic performance tasks, providing students with immersive, hands-on learning experiences beyond traditional classroom settings. By integrating practical application with collaborative engagement, Project Hugpong aims to broaden perspectives, cultivate critical thinking, and nurture well-rounded learners prepared for real-world challenges.

    This pioneering approach aligns with Sustainable Development Goal 4, promoting inclusive, equitable, and quality education. The project exemplifies JBLFMU-A’s commitment to innovative teaching methodologies that foster creativity, collaboration, and lifelong learning.   • On January 25, 2025, 28 community members gathered to kick off a new cycle of the Community Managed Savings and Credit Association (CoMSCA), focusing on discussing updated guidelines and electing a fresh set of officers to lead the initiative.

    As part of JBLFMU CES’s Livelihood and Educational Program, three CoMSCA groups were successfully formed for School Year 2024–2025. These groups aim to enhance financial literacy, promote savings mobilization, and provide access to credit, empowering community members to make informed decisions and achieve economic self-reliance.

    This initiative aligns with Sustainable Development Goals 4 and 8, fostering education, financial inclusion, and sustainable growth. Through CoMSCA, JBLFMU CES continues to support communities in building resilience, strengthening partnerships, and promoting long-term, community-driven development.

  • Last February 12, 2025, the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University–Molo Community Extension Services (JBLFMU-Molo CES) successfully organized the Employees’ Immersion at Puerto Del Mar and Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The whole-day activity engaged employees in meaningful, hands-on environmental initiatives that deepened awareness and responsibility toward nature. Highlights included an orientation on Puerto Del Mar, mangrove bagging and planting, mangrove and coastal clean-up, and an environmental tour and site familiarization around PDM, highlighting the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary . Through direct participation, employees gained firsthand experience of ecosystem protection and sustainable coastal management. The initiative aimed to strengthen environmental consciousness, encourage eco-friendly practices, and foster a shared commitment to conservation.

  • On February 16, 2025, the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University Community Extension Services (JBLFMU CES) conducted a COMSCA and Community Meeting aimed at strengthening financial literacy, savings discipline, and community development. The activity provided a platform for members to review savings and loan performance, assess current challenges, and discuss practical strategies to improve financial management. Participants also collaboratively planned initiatives focused on economic empowerment and long-term sustainability. Through open dialogue and shared learning, the program reinforced the values of self-reliance, responsible lending, and mutual support. This initiative reflects JBLFMU CES’s continuing commitment to building financially resilient communities by equipping members with knowledge, confidence, and collective responsibility toward inclusive and sustainable economic growth.

  • On February 21, 2025, the PNVMPC Management Board convened to deliberate on key issues affecting the cooperative and its members. The meeting served as a vital platform to assess current concerns, align strategies, and reinforce good governance practices within the organization. Guided by a shared commitment to growth and collective well-being, the board discussed measures aimed at improving services, strengthening member support, and ensuring transparent and responsible management. Through collaborative decision-making, the PNVMPC Management Board reaffirmed its dedication to delivering positive outcomes, upholding members’ interests, and sustaining a cooperative that provides meaningful benefit and long-term support for all its members.


    It is recalled that the PNVMPC was formed following the establishment of the IBMS.

  • On February 24–25, 2025, members of the IBMS Technical Working Group convened for the fourth phase of their meeting and workshop, marking another milestone in collaborative environmental governance. The two-day session focused on a comprehensive review and strategic updating of the IBMS Management Plan to ensure its relevance and effectiveness. Participants examined current priorities, identified emerging issues and challenges, and explored innovative approaches to strengthen sustainable management practices. Through focused discussions and collective planning, the workshop reinforced shared accountability and adaptive strategies for long-term ecosystem protection. This phase underscored the group’s commitment to responsive planning, science-based decision-making, and continuous improvement in managing IBMS for a more resilient and sustainable future.

  • On February 27, 2025, COMSCA members of Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, together with JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES) and Social Work student interns from Iloilo Doctors College (IDC), conducted a session on financial literacy and savings practices. The activity aimed to promote responsible money management, strengthen savings discipline, and enhance long-term financial stability among community members.

    On the same day, JBLFMU CES personnel formally delivered an invitation letter to the Department of Education (DepEd) Guimaras for the upcoming Eco-Adventure Camp. In support of marine conservation efforts, the University also turned over its contribution to the Fish Wardens of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary in the Municipality of Nueva Valencia. These initiatives highlight JBLFMU CES’s integrated approach to community empowerment, education, and environmental stewardship.

  • Another community meeting was held on Sunday, March 2, 2025, focusing on financial literacy and savings programs to further empower local communities. The sessions were conducted in Sitio Tabunan and Sitio Laktawan, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, providing residents with practical knowledge on responsible money management and the importance of consistent savings. Through interactive discussions and shared experiences, participants gained a clearer understanding of budgeting, financial planning, and collective economic responsibility. The activity aimed to strengthen financial awareness at the grassroots level, encourage sustainable financial practices, and support community members in building greater financial stability and resilience.

  • On March 13, 2025, a group of parents convened for their regular CoMSCA meeting as part of the continuing livelihood initiatives of the John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University Community Extension Services (JBLFMU CES). The meeting reinforced the core objectives of CoMSCA, which include promoting financial literacy, instilling the importance of consistent savings, and providing accessible loans that serve as capital for members’ livelihood activities. Through shared discussions and collective planning, participants strengthened their understanding of responsible financial management and mutual support. This initiative continues to empower families by enhancing economic self-reliance, supporting sustainable livelihoods, and fostering a financially resilient community.
