• On August 4, 2023, the JBLFMU Molo Kinaadman Chorale, in coordination with the Community Extension Services (CES), successfully conducted a tree planting and coastal clean-up drive at Puerto del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras and Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary. The activity brought together students and volunteers united by a shared commitment to environmental stewardship. Through hands-on action, participants contributed to habitat restoration, waste reduction, and heightened ecological awareness within the coastal community. The initiative reflects JBLFMU’s strong advocacy for sustainability and youth engagement in environmental protection. This meaningful effort highlights the power of collective action in caring for nature. A salute to all Lacsonian Eco-Warriors who continue to champion a cleaner, greener future.

  • In conjunction with the JBLFMU/JBLCF/JBLF Inc. Mission Objective Week and the International Clean-Up Drive, and in line with the Annual Operating Plan (AOP) of JBLCF–Puerto del Mar, a series of environmental activities were successfully conducted on September 14–15, 2023. These initiatives aimed to strengthen environmental stewardship and deepen community engagement. Activities included a coastal and facilities clean-up, mangrove bagging for ecosystem restoration, and the beautification of the butterfly habitat. The team also undertook layout planning to transform the environmental library into an exhibit room, mapped mangrove and forest areas for future reforestation, and completed mural paintings to enhance the site’s visual appeal. Together, these efforts reinforced a shared commitment to conservation, education, and sustainable community action.

  • Stolt Nielsen Philippines and JCI Regatta, in partnership with JBLFMU, advanced environmental conservation through a joint Mangrove Planting Activity on September 16, 2023, at the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary. A total of 300 mangrove seedlings were planted, adding to the 900 seedlings established during an earlier activity on July 9, 2023. The initiative was led by JBLFMU Chief Executive Officer Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, together with unit administrators and representatives from Stolt Nielsen and JCI Regatta. The activity also featured the unveiling of an informational board on the Mangrove Forest to promote public awareness of mangrove ecosystem services. This collaborative effort underscores the vital role of multi-sectoral partnerships in strengthening coastal resilience and advancing long-term environmental sustainability.

  • On October 26, 2023, the JBLFMU Molo Maritime High School Department, in collaboration with the Community Extension Services (CES) Office, successfully conducted a Clean-up Drive at Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary Puerto del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, and a Vegetable Gardening Activity at Woodland Bike Park, Brgy. Ravina, Sibunag, Guimaras. Grade 6 and 7 students, together with their teacher-advisers, actively participated, demonstrating strong volunteerism and environmental responsibility. The activities aimed to raise awareness on environmental protection and social accountability while providing hands-on learning experiences. Through direct engagement with nature, students developed a deeper appreciation for conservation, teamwork, and sustainable practices, reinforcing JBLFMU’s commitment to nurturing environmentally conscious and socially responsible future leaders.

  • On November 7, 2023, JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES) personnel actively participated in the CoMSCA meeting of the Fast Cash Group in Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The activity marked the 4th cycle of the CoMSCA program in the barangay, now on its 18th week of implementation. The cycle is set to culminate with a share-out activity on its 20th week. This continuing engagement reflects the sustained commitment of JBLFMU CES to promoting financial cooperation, savings discipline, and inclusive community development. The initiative highlights the role of structured financial literacy programs in empowering community members and strengthening grassroots economic resilience.

  • Aligned with its mission to uplift communities, JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES) continues to provide quality education and training to partner communities. In collaboration with the ERDA Foundation, CES supports deserving students from Iloilo, Guimaras, and Antique. Launched in 2015 with 500 beneficiaries, the program has grown to positively impact 900 students to date. Through this partnership, ERDA Foundation has sponsored 900 sets of school supplies, which will be distributed to students in December 2023. This initiative demonstrates JBLFMU CES’s commitment to enhancing access to education and improving the quality of life for youth in partner communities.

  • On November 17, 2023, JBLFMU Molo-Tech Vocational Center’s BSCM Batch 9 students successfully organized a Community Extension Services (CES) activity at Puerto del Mar, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The initiative included a coastal clean-up, mangrove bagging, and an educational tour, directly contributing to environmental protection and awareness. Students demonstrated exceptional teamwork, dedication, and commitment to sustainability, making a meaningful impact on the local ecosystem. Their active participation reflects JBLFMU’s mission to instill environmental stewardship among students while promoting community engagement and hands-on learning experiences for a greener, more resilient Guimaras.

  • On November 21, 2023, JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES) led a community meeting to prepare for the upcoming PO’s Team Building Activity. The session also provided a platform to discuss matters concerning the CoMSCA project, including share purchases, loan payments, and other relevant concerns. By fostering open communication and active participation, the CES team ensured that community members were informed, engaged, and well-prepared for both the team-building initiative and ongoing financial activities. This proactive approach highlights JBLFMU CES’s commitment to strengthening community collaboration, financial literacy, and organizational cohesion.

  • On November 22, 2023, a JBLFMU CES officer attended the Guimaras Alliance and Protected Areas meeting held at Marceily Point. The meeting provided a platform to present and update accomplishments in environmental protection across the region. During the session, the CES officer highlighted JBLFMU’s ongoing initiatives at JBLCF Puerto del Mar and the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary, showcasing efforts in habitat conservation, community engagement, and sustainable coastal management. This participation underscores JBLFMU CES’s commitment to collaborative environmental stewardship and reinforces the university’s role as a proactive partner in advancing ecological protection and sustainable practices in Guimaras.

  • On November 25, 2023, the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG), in partnership with JBLFMU and the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, successfully conducted a Scubasurero and Clean-Up Drive at JBLCF Puerto del Mar, Villa Igang, and Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary. The initiative focused on removing underwater and coastal waste, restoring marine habitats, and promoting environmental awareness. Through coordinated efforts, participants actively contributed to preserving the natural beauty and ecological integrity of the area. This activity highlights the importance of multi-sector collaboration in safeguarding coastal and marine environments while fostering community engagement and sustainable stewardship.

  • On December 7, 2023, JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES), in collaboration with PCGA 601.13 Division, conducted a successful outreach program at Sto. Domingo Care Center in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, reinforcing a long-term partnership dedicated to enhancing education since 2008. Members of the JBLFMU Executive Council staff contributed educational materials and facilitated interactive activities including storytelling, color workshops, and gift-giving. The event provided a meaningful experience for participants while strengthening the university’s commitment to community engagement, promoting education, and nurturing social responsibility among both students and staff.

  • On January 6, 2024, the JBLFMU partner community celebrated a highly successful Team Building Activity and New Year event at JBLCF Puerto del Mar (Villa Corazon), Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. Organized by the JBLFMU CES office in collaboration with JBLFMU-Molo CES, JBLF Training Center, alumni, Captain Harlan Patricio, and PCGA 601.13 Division, the event fostered unity, cooperation, and camaraderie among partner families. Activities led by student volunteers promoted teamwork, communication skills, and fun, while IEC materials on family relationships and memory-boosting techniques were distributed. Tokens of appreciation honored participants’ contributions, reinforcing commitment to shared goals. The celebration highlighted the power of collaboration and the enduring impact of the JBLFMU community.

  • On March 14, 2024, personnel from the JBLFMU Community Extension Services (CES), together with student interns, successfully conducted a Community Meeting and comprehensive data-gathering activity in Barangay Poblacion, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. The activity focused on a Community Needs Assessment and Impact Study of the Community Managed Savings and Credit Association (CMSCA), serving as a vital step toward evidence-based and sustainable community development.

    Aligned with the CES Office Annual Operational Plan, the initiative aimed to identify priority community needs, assess the effectiveness and outcomes of the CMSCA, and encourage meaningful community participation in local decision-making. Through direct engagement, discussions, and field data collection, the team gained valuable insights into the financial, social, and organizational conditions of the community.

    The activity strengthened collaboration between the university and community members while providing interns with hands-on learning experience. The initiative enhanced planning accuracy, promoted inclusive development, and reinforced CES’s commitment to building resilient, self-sustaining communities.

  • On March 15, 2024, committee members from JBLFMU, DENR–PENRO Guimaras, GENRO, and the MENRO of the Municipality of Nueva Valencia convened at the JBLFMU Ecological Park to finalize preparations for the upcoming 6th Eco-Camp, scheduled on May 8–11, 2024. The meeting served as a crucial coordination activity to align roles, logistics, and program components essential to the successful implementation of the camp.

    Guided by the theme “Preserving Our Planet: Empowering Sustainable Communities,” the committee focused on strengthening environmental education, community engagement, and inter-agency collaboration. Key discussions centered on activity design, resource sharing, environmental safeguards, and strategies to maximize youth participation and learning outcomes.

    The meeting highlighted the strong partnership among academic institutions and environmental agencies, reinforcing a shared commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship. The activity ensured a well-coordinated, impactful, and mission-driven Eco-Camp that aims to inspire collective action toward a greener and more resilient future.

  • JBLFMU and GENRO, together with Stolt Tankers B.V., JCI Regatta, Gerbo Dive Resort, PCG, and PCGA, expanded the Coral Gardening Project with two new coral beds on March 22, 2024. Since 2016, this initiative has restored vital coral reefs, promoting marine biodiversity and sustainable oceans. The 2024 expansion strengthens our commitment to SDG 14 – Life Below Water, ensuring healthier, thriving marine ecosystems for future generations.

  • From April 16 to 19, 2024, JBLFMU conducted a 4-day Biophysical Assessment of the Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary to evaluate the ecological health of seagrasses, mangroves, corals, and fish populations using visual census methods. This initiative was made possible through the technical collaboration of the Guimaras Alliance of Protected Areas and Sanctuaries (GAPAS), comprising DENR-PENRO, GENRO, and the local governments of Nueva Valencia and San Lorenzo. Additional support came from Reef Wanderers, Bantay Dagat, JBLF Inc., PCG, and PCGA.

    The assessment underscores JBLFMU’s proactive role in marine conservation, safeguarding biodiversity, and enhancing ecological integrity. Through this collaborative effort, the University advances Sustainable Development Goal 14, promoting life below water and ensuring the resilience of Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary for future generations.

  • The Community Extension Service Society (CESS), a recognized club of JBLFMU Molo, successfully held its annual CES and Immersion Activity on June 16, 2024, at JBLFMU Ecological Park, Nueva Valencia, Guimaras. Members united for an impactful environmental initiative, combining tree planting, mangrove planting, and a coastal clean-up drive.

    Student volunteers planted 50 mahogany seedlings to combat climate change and enhance biodiversity, followed by 100 mangrove seedlings to protect coastlines and serve as marine nurseries. A coastal clean-up drive ensued, removing debris from beaches and mangrove areas, safeguarding marine life, and promoting sustainable practices.

    These collective efforts underscore JBLFMU’s commitment to environmental stewardship and community action, aligning with Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 14. The activity stands as a testament to the transformative power of youth-driven initiatives for a sustainable, greener future.

  • The JBLCF Bacolod CES Office, led by CES Officer Mr. Ivan Gayotin, organized an employee immersion program at JBLCF PDM to familiarize staff with the advocacies and initiatives of CES on July 19, 2024. The program began with an orientation by CES Coordinator Ms. Mary Mar E. Jaleco, highlighting key programs, best practices, and guidance on forming CES committees for a deeper understanding of departmental functions.

    Following the briefing, employees actively participated in hands-on activities supporting environmental conservation, including a coastal clean-up, mangrove nursery arrangement, tree planting, and familiarization with CES projects at PDM.

    This immersive experience not only strengthened employees’ appreciation for CES initiatives but also advanced Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15, fostering environmental stewardship and a shared commitment to sustainable, community-driven action.

  • On August 4, 2024, the Apex Club of Iloilo and JCI Ilang Ilang joined forces to support JBLFMU’s environmental protection initiatives through mangrove planting activities at JBLFMU Ecological Park and Igang Bay Marine Sanctuary. This collaborative effort aimed to strengthen the local ecosystem, improve coastal resilience, and promote sustainable practices within the Marine Protected Area.

    Volunteers from both organizations actively participated in planting and nurturing mangroves, contributing to shoreline protection, habitat restoration, and marine biodiversity conservation. The initiative reflects JBLFMU’s ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship and community engagement, emphasizing the importance of collective action in safeguarding natural resources.

    Through enhancing coastal ecosystems and raising awareness of sustainable practices, this partnership advances Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 14, ensuring healthier, thriving marine environments for present and future generations.

  • On August 12, 2024, the JBLFMU CES Coordinator served as facilitator and resource person during the Youth Eco-Adventure activity organized by the Municipality of Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, in partnership with the Municipal Federation of Sangguniang Kabataan. Held at JBLCF PDM, the event drew inspiration from the JBLFMU Eco-Adventure Camp Amazing Race, immersing participants in diverse environmental activities designed to build awareness and foster practical skills in conservation.

    Aligned with the Linggo ng Kabataan 2024 celebrations, the activity emphasized youth empowerment, community engagement, and environmental stewardship. Through interactive challenges and learning sessions, participants gained firsthand experience in sustainable practices while strengthening teamwork and leadership skills.

    This initiative highlights JBLFMU’s commitment to Sustainable Development Goals 13 and 15, nurturing environmentally conscious youth as active agents for a greener, sustainable future.
