• In honor of the late Captain John B. Lacson, numerous swim teams from all over Western Visayas flock the campus of JBLFMU-Molo to participate in the 3rd John B. Lacson Memorial Swim Fest, held at the University Pool, November 25-26.


    During the two-day competition, participating teams showcased outstanding abilities and unwavering resolve, displaying a high level of expertise among athletes in the field of swimming.


    The Bagong Kalibo Swim Team emerged victorious during the event, followed by the Iloilo Tiger Sharks Swim Club and Capiz Turbo Sharks, which secured the 1st and 2nd runner-up positions, respectively.
  • JBLFMU-Molo is still accepting enrollment for new and transfer students for Second Semester, SY 2023-2024.

    Classes start January 15, 2024.

  • The administration of JBLFMU-Molo through the leadership of Mr. Robert O. Parcia, Administrator sent the 24 instructors and non-teaching staff to attend the seminar-workshop entitled "Achieving Excellence in Scientific Journal Publishing:

    A Seminar-Workshop on Scopus Indexing and Other Indexing Application Processes" at the JBL Hall of JBLFMU-Arevalo, Iloilo City last January 11-12, 2024. The research speaker was Prof. Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III.

    The program started with prayer, the national anthem, and JBLFMU hymn. Dr. Melchor M. Magramo, Research Director of JBLFMU-Molo welcomed the participants coming from different academic units of the university. Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, Research Coordinator of JBLFMU-Molo introduced the resource speaker. Professor Don Eliseo Lucero-Prisno III leads a global initiative, "Achieving University Excellence through Research", to address global research inequity.  The initiative engages in intensive research capacity-building of many universities in Asia and Africa.  Don is the Editor-in-Chief of Public Health Challenges (Wiley) and is the Deputy Editor-in-Chief of BMC Global Health Research and Policy.

    Don is a global health scientist whose works focus on health equity.  His scientific work is hinged on creating evidence to influence global health policy and practice, improve the health of populations, and achieve global health equity.  Don teaches Economics of Global Health Policy at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and International Health at the University of the Philippines (Open University). 

    He was a Visiting Scientist at Harvard Medical School and currently holds Adjunct and Visiting Professorship at Mahidol University, University of Botswana, Cardiff University, Wuhan University, Naresuan University, Astana Medical University, Asfendiyarov Kazakh National Medical University, Universidade da Paz, and Taipei Medical University. 

    He finished his Ph.D. at Cardiff University, MPH at the Royal Tropical Institute in Amsterdam, MSc in Health Economics Policy and Law in Global Health at Erasmus University in Rotterdam, The Netherlands, and his BSc Psychology (cum laude) and Doctor of Medicine from the University of the Philippines. His global work has been recognized through many awards he has received including The Outstanding Young Man of the Philippines in 2009 from the President of the country. Closing remarks were delivered by Dr. Ma. Elena J. Eleperia, Academic Affairs Director of JBLFMU. 

     

     

  • John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo welcomed students back for the second semester with a focus on improved facilities and inspiring values at the University Gymnasium, Jan. 22.


    School administrator Mr. Robert O. Parcia, MMM kicked things off with announcements and exciting news about recent upgrades made to the campus, ensuring a more comfortable learning environment for students.

    Mdpn. Jan Reynard Galilea a second-year Cruise Ship Management student took the stage to share a thought-provoking talk centered on the importance of "Godliness," encouraging students to embrace their faith and let it guide their actions.

    The flag ceremony led by the Society of Saint Vincent de Paul (SSVP) JBLFMU-M Chapter, setting the tone for a semester of service and community spirit.
  • The 2024 JBLFMU-Molo Employees' Night and Recognition Program acknowledged the steadfast dedication of its long-serving faculty and staff, thus the event took on extra significance.

  • John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) officially kicked off its 76th Founding Anniversary Week with the theme “Charting New Horizons: JBLFMU 76 Years of Maritime Excellence,” at John B. Lacson Colleges Foundation-Bacolod (JBLCF-B), February 5.

    The week-long event commenced with a Holy Mass presided over by Rev. Fr. Joel E. Roquez, followed by a grand caravan – a parade featuring representatives and delegates from the three units: JBLFMU-Molo, JBLFMU-Arevalo, and JBLCF-B, and opening ceremony.

    The ceremony showcased the raising of banners, the presentation of finalists for System Model Cadets and candidates for Mr. and Ms. JBLFMU 2024, and a silent drill performance from the JBLFMU 802nd NROTC Unit Arevalo and Molo.

    Moreover, Dr. Mary Lou L. Arcelo, President Emeritus, delivered her 76th founding anniversary message, while Dr. Ronald Reymond L. Sebastian, CEO, delivered an inspirational message and officially declared the opening of the 76th anniversary.

  • The College of Business’ faculty member, Mrs. Louise May M. Lim, served as one of the on-site hosts in this year’s 6th National Forum on Media and Information Literacy (NFMIL) in CFA Compound, Sta. Mesa, Manila, February 9–10.



    Mrs. Lim attended the national seminar with the College of Maritime Education’s faculty member, Dr. Elsie F. Gancia, who was among the collective plenary sessions’ moderators at the event.



    Selected staff of The Seagull Publication also joined the synchronous online webinar via Zoom.

    Moreover, the National Forum on Media and Information Literacy aims to establish its role in promoting media and information literacy in the country, with JBLFMU-Molo being one of the major sponsors along with reputable institutions across the Philippines.

  • The 59th Iloilo Private Schools Athletic Association (ILOPRISAA) opening ceremony kicked off today at John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo covered court, February 26.
    Dr. Ronald Raymond Lacson Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU and chairman of ILOPRISAA, officially opened the games in a ceremony with distinguished guests from different schools and universities of Iloilo City.

    In his opening speech, Dr. Sebastian highlighted that, "For three consecutive years, we have emerged stronger and more determined than ever."

    Dr. Sebastian acknowledged the difficulties brought on by the pandemic, but emphasized that ILOPRISAA's nearly six decades of existence have instilled resilience, and the organization has emerged even more determined to succeed.


    The ceremony was further enriched by the presence of Miss Universe Philippines - Iloilo 2024, Alexie Caimoso Brooks, a heptathlon star and beauty queen. She delivered an inspirational message, urging athletes to push through their fears and compete to their full potential.

    Around 2,000 athletes from 30 member schools will be participating.
    The goal of the said competition is to develop their skills not just in sports, but also in academics, social interaction, and mental well-being.

    The 59th ILOPRISAA, running for two weeks under the theme "Steadfast in Advancing and Sustaining Grassroots Sports Development for Excellence," focuses on nurturing well-rounded student athletes.

  • The Junior Chamber International (JCI) Regatta in partnership with John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo, Inc (JBLFMU-M) organized a TOSIA Talk Series at John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo Campus, CSM Function Hall, March 9.


    Under the theme "Resurgence: Recasting and Seizing the Future," this year's TOSIA Talks offered invaluable perspectives on leadership development and proposed actionable steps to enhance effectiveness and impact in the society.


  • The Marine Sewage Treatment Plant (MSTP), an research and development (R&D) project implemented by John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo (JBLFMU-Molo) is set to complete its project duration on March 2024.
    This project aims to develop a sewage treatment system for domestic maritime vessels, with an improved treatment process preventing harmful effects on the surrounding waters. One of the goals of JBLFMU-Molo is to make this design effective to be used for standardization of the sewage treatment process onboard.
    The project is funded by the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) under the Regional Research Institution (RRI) Program. The secretariats of the Western Visayas Consortium for Industry, Energy, and Emerging Technology Research and Development (WVCIEERD) visited JBLFMU-Molo to monitor the status of the project.   • John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University, in partnership with the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) Regional Office VI, officially signed the Memorandum of Agreement for Project DAGAT (Driving Advancement, Generating Access, and Transforming Small Island Communities), a National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Innovation Grant Project at JBLFMU-Molo, March 7.

    Project DAGAT aims to establish water desalination on Unisan Island in Nueva Valencia, Guimaras, to drive technological advancements within the selected community.


    The MOA signing ceremony was attended by Dr. Ronald Reymond L. Sebastian and Mr. Robert O. Parcia, along with representatives from the Department of Science and Technology Region VI, including Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, Regional Director and Engr. Naomi Cossette R. Luis, Assistant Regional Director for Technical Operations.


    Initiated by the faculty and staff of JBLFMU-Molo, Project DAGAT represents a significant endeavor toward sustainable development in the region.
  • John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University (JBLFMU) has made significant strides in the latest EduRank Best Universities in the Philippines Rankings, released on February 29th.
    The university jumps an impressive 12 spots to claim the 59th position nationwide, solidifying its position as one of a leading institution of the nation.

    This upward climb is particularly noteworthy as JBLFMU also secures the coveted third place ranking among universities in the Western Visayas region surpassing Central Philippine University (CPU) in EduRank 2023 Ranking.

    Previously holding the 71st spot nationally in 2023, JBLFMU's dedication to excellence is evident in its continuous improvement.

  • Earlier today, Adrian Quin Faeldonia, a JBLFMU-Molo, Inc. student was honored with the 2023 Regional Outstanding Volunteer Award by NEDA at Andana Resort in Guimaras, acknowledging his remarkable dedication to volunteerism.

    His tireless efforts in community service have earned him this prestigious recognition, setting a good example for others to follow in making a positive impact in their communities.

    “As someone who is more comfortable working behind the scenes to facilitate events, I am flattered to have received this award. Nonetheless, it made me proud of what I had accomplished and served as validation of all of my efforts and sacrifices in growing myself to become a well-rounded individual,” said Faeldonia.

    The award celebrates outstanding Filipino volunteers, like Faeldonia, who empower communities and promote volunteerism, contributing significantly to nation-building.

    “This recognition is intended not just for myself, but also for the Lacsonian Community. I am very grateful to JBLFMU-Molo especially to Ma'am Nancy Rose Rico-Pelopero, Ma'am Krizna Joy Belenzion, Sir Raymund Benedick Brillantes and to all the people I have worked with for providing a positive learning environment and for giving me the opportunity to be of service. I will forever treasure the experience and I will do my best to share it with the community,” Faeldonia added.

  • The Business Leaders' Summit 7.0 (BLS 7.0) was held at UPV Little Theater last March 22–23, 2024. Student leaders from the College of Business Management of John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University - Molo, comprising the Supreme Student Government (SSG) and Business Student Executive Council (BUS-SEC) Officers successfully attended the plenary sessions of the two-day event.
    With this year's theme 'Trailblazing the Future: Reimagining Business Leadership,' JBLFMU-Molo delegates engaged in insightful discussions, participated in the activity, and networked with industry experts and fellow delegates, fostering collaborative efforts to address contemporary challenges and opportunities in the business landscape.
    JBLFMU-Molo was also recognized as a valued partner school during the Victor's Night, an event honoring partnerships and achievements.
  • In honor of Word Water Day, volunteers from John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University-Molo took part in a clean-up drive, March 23, 2024.

    Spearheaded by DENR-EMB, the activity was held at the Iloilo Esplanade, and participated by JBLFMU-M's NSTP-CWTS students, officers, faculty members, and administrative staff.

    This event is an annual celebration that raises awareness about the importance of conserving natural resources and promoting environmental protection.

  • In response to the sweltering weather in the region, John B. Lacson Foundation Maritime University has taken innovative steps to ensure optimal learning conditions for its students. The university has recently energized air conditioning units in the classrooms, promising a refreshing escape from the scorching temperature outside.

Syrus Miguel Santamena, a third-year Bachelor of Science in Marine Engineering student at JBLFMU-Molo, was recently honored with the "Philippines Young Man of Outstanding Achievements, Exemplary Youth Leader, and Community Development and Youth Empowerment Advocate" Award during the 7th Dangal ng Lahi Awards held at Supreme Hotel, Baguio City, on April 6.

    Expressing his gratitude, Santamena shared, "Receiving the award has left me overwhelmed with gratitude and emotion. It's not just about the recognition; it's about the journey… As a servant leader, I'm fulfilled knowing my work has made a positive impact… This award is not just for me, it's a reminder of the power of teamwork and support.

  • The Department of Science and Technology - Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (DOST-PCIEERD) headquarters from Manila, along with DOST Region 6, conducted a project visit to the Marine Sewage Treatment Plant, a research funded by DOST-PCIEERD in collaboration with JBLFMU-Molo, April 17, 2024.

    Among the notable attendees were Dr. Enrico C. Paringit, the esteemed executive director of DOST-PCIEERD, Mr. Ruel A. Pili, DOST-PCIEERD Consortia Project Manager, and Engr. Rowen R. Gelonga, DOST VI Regional Director, alongside the dedicated team members from DOST-PCIEERD and DOST Region VI.

    The distinguished presence of Dr. Ronald Raymond L. Sebastian, CEO of JBLFMU, and Mr. Robert O. Parcia, MMM, added eminence to the occasion as they shared their insights and warm welcomes.


    Grounded in the regulatory frameworks of MARPOL (Marine Pollution) 73/78 Annex VI Regulation and RA 9275 (Clean Water Act), this study holds profound implications for maritime industries, aiming to assess the viability and efficacy of implementing Marine Sewage Treatment Plants (MSTPs) aboard domestic ships, underscoring a commitment to fostering cleaner, more sustainable maritime practices in alignment with global environmental standards.


    Moreover, the project inventors included Dr. Rolando A. Alimen, Engr. Allan Roberto, C/E Agustin Bedia, Ph.D., Engr. Nerios S. Cortejo, Engr. Ernie Jay A. Teves, and Dr. Victor Ruperto B. Jaleco.
